Interesting system you have put there. I do wonder if the car now deliberately loses power to cool itself when the temperature increases, how does this impact the cars ability to accelerate especially on the highway when one may want to overtake. Does this system not put the driver at risk of not overtaking quickly enough if the cooling system kicks in at that point???

That’s a smart question there. We thought hard about this. After discovering the 7 degree issue we could either make the car shut off when temps threaten damaging engine or derate power for brief moment as it cools. We saw that it would be dangerous to shut off as the driver could be in the situation you said above or when you are in a bad neighborhood. We saw better to make it run the fans hard first then de-rate power. Acceleration will still be there but it will be reduced by a factor. With that engine de-rate and fans aggressively running temps drop even during acceleration. You can see from demo above that you still have acceleration. It wont be as hard thats all. Would you still want to accelerate hard when after that pull your engine becomes toast?

Hellow DPF team, on your video you just insist that we should use coolant and damp it right away, the question these car came with their own coolant type which is FL22. Then what will be the compatible coolant that will be matching the FL22, especially for the owner's around in Africa?

The Mazda axela 2015-18 has the same sky active engine. It also doesn't have a water temp gauge. Mine was a hybrid and that car gave me chills, I sold it very fast before the battery or cooling system started giving me issues.

Very common occurrence here. 2017 and prior do not have temp gauge. A lot of cx5 diesel owners are on 2nd engines.

I have a 2019 cx5 touring. Non turbo. It has 129k miles and I haven’t flushed the coolant yet. But today the check engine light came on it started overheating. Only reason I caught it was because I heard both fans o and it was between 210 degrees and 260 degrees! I let it cool down, checked for leaks. The coolant in the reservoir was below the “L” mark. So after it cooled down I went to auto parts store and Grabbed Peak 50/50. The cx5 took half of the gallon of antifreeze. I started driving it again and it eventually started going above 210 degrees. I turned the heat at max and blowing at max and it went down to just before 210 degrees. This cx5 has been awesome. It’s awesome! Unstoppable in mud, sand, snow. It’s just been solid. Except for this now. Check engine light and overheating

I have the same car, from 2016 diesel with DPF a I don't have this issue. You should find the root cause, maybe the coolant valve or you have the carbon build up in the intake...

What really causes specifically the sky-active motor to overheat so easily besides antifreeze factors? Does it mean that mazda failed to engineer their cooling system or what?

Not the best coolant, not the best brake fluid. Very good engine oil. I measured it with gages and its barely above boiling after couple of years.

Looks like the solution goes beyond the problem. The issue here is low coolant levels resulting in overheating. An aftermarket coolant level indicator would work just fine. Most older cars used to have them. Otherwise you really cannot help a person who cannot understand that checking coolant levels every weekend or so will save them a new engine.
