Maya Leather - Seafarer Card Holder
A fellow leather crafter, Wade, generously gave me some of his Maya belly and shoulder scrap leather recently. I haven't worked with it before, but was eager to try something out and see what the leather performed like. Enjoy!

This channel is about sharing how I craft leather goods in a way that hopefully inspires others to pursue their passion. For me, the word "legacy" has grown to mean 'to pass the torch.' That can be sharing a passion, craft, or heirloom with the next generation. My hope is that by showing, for example, how I cut my leather goods or saddle stitch a wallet that you might be inspired to either take up the craft or inspired to pursue whatever your current passion happens to be. I hope you enjoy and learn something about the craft.

Do you use Maine thread anymore? Seems like you've switched to Vinymo MBT. I played around with Maine Thread but I wasn't really enjoying it. The color fades and becomes cloudy when the thread is pulled tight. Wondering if you were encountering similar issues as switched as a result.

I haven't used Maine Thread in some time. After years using it, I decided to switch due to some of the similar issues you've mentioned. Even after trying to warm the waxed polycord by hand, I would still experience what I can best describe as "gummy" or "chunky" looking stitching.

@@legacybrandleather Sounds like different vocab being used to describe the same problem. Did you ever try the french lin cable? I really like the colors it comes in and it does pop more compared to Vinymo thread. I have however not made and tested anything with it yet. Nor do I have a good technique for ending the stiches since burns instead of melting. Always learning to be done.

The Brass knife? If that's the tool in question, it's a Vergez Blanchard l'indispenable brass knife.

Yes, some years ago I acquired some cocobolo wood attachments for a rotary dremel tool in order to burnish my leather goods.
