00:00:00 INTRO!!!
└─Off Roading─────────────
Join us on an off road retelling of our first few days of our epic 18 day Utah/Arizona Adventure!
┌─────────────────────
00:00:21 Leaving Camp
└─Off Roading─────────────
After a night under the stars, we left our dispersed campsite and headed back to Grosvenor Arch for some photos and the beginning of a long day of off-roading.
┌─────────────────────
00:01:20 Turning onto Cottonwood Canyon Road
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
Leaving Last Chance Creek Trail behind, we turn onto Cottonwood Canyon Road, where we experience an ever changing terrain and scenery, and some long and gentle switchbacks.
┌─────────────────────
00:02:05 Great Hiking Spot
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
Farther down Cottonwood Canyon Road, there's a great hiking spot between some pretty impressive rock outcroppings! While we didn't stop to hike, another Subie driver did.
┌─────────────────────
00:02:54 Gentle Switchbacks
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
Next up were some gentle switchbacks to take us part way up to the top of the butte.
┌─────────────────────
00:03:13 Taking a turn to find some rougher terrain
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
We decided to turn onto Route 7015 to find some tougher terrain, starting with some steep switchbacks.
┌─────────────────────
00:06:03 Taking a turn to find some rougher terrain
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
Once at the top, things got rockier, and we found some fun terrain to off-road over. As with most of these trails, under the thin layer of dirt is solid rock.
┌─────────────────────
00:09:15 Some more serious switchbacks
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
Having crossed over the top of the butte, only one thing could be next - the way down. Here, we found some pretty steep switchbacks, with a lot of loose rock and sand, meaning slow going to the bottom so we didn't take the express route down the side of the cliffs.
┌─────────────────────
00:11:40 Finally into the valleys
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
After carefully making our way down the switchbacks, we finally reached the valleys and washes.
┌─────────────────────
00:17:05 Things get rockier
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
The road dipped into the wash again, this time in an area where the wash had worn the rock down into crevasses we had to navigate through and over. It's not a terribly difficult area, but, it does require some knowledge of what you're doing, and a lot of care.
┌─────────────────────
00:20:20 Emptiness?
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
Suddenly, the landscape changed, and we were surrounded by... nothing?
┌─────────────────────
00:22:12 Taking to the skies
└─Off Roading and Trails──────
In a rare moment this leg of the trip, the wind died down, and we were able to fly our drones. This gives you a great perspective of just how far into the middle of nowhere we were.
