The talented and very humble Matthew Lewis (Harry Potter, Me Before You) joins us this week and discusses the challenges of playing various characters after being a part of one of the world’s largest pop culture phenomenons.
Matthew delves deep into his inner defense mechanisms when viewing his own work, never letting his career define his life, and how he’s learned more from theater than films.
For all you Harry Potter fans, we talk about some hilarious behind the scenes stories, memorabilia Matthew smuggled home with him, and also working with the late and brilliant Alan Rickman.

One of my favorite scenes in all of Harry Potter is when Neville trash-talks Voldemort. Remember how Ron told him, “You’ve got to start standing up to people” in like the first or second movie? I was like “shiiiiiid!” Go big or go home! Lol
Had the coolest thing happen when I watched this for the second time today. My nephew was visiting and started watching this with me. He was so impressed with Michael’s incredible emotional intelligence and interview style. He told me that he could really relate to Matthew’s feelings of self doubt. He is now subscribed and will encourage his fraternity brothers to watch too. So happy to have my love and joy for this podcast be a family affair. 😀❤️

As a fellow Yorkshire lad (living in London) who hasn't been able to get up North to see his family for over a year now - listening to Matthew speak has been strangely comforting, just the accent and certain phrasing reminds me so much of home. I love the 'It'll be reet' attitude. I also suddenly wanna go to the Turkish baths.

..And the Harry Potter theme continues! What a treat! Absolutely the best way to start my day by getting to know this kind and talented man. Keep ‘em coming Rosey😀❤️
Enjoyed listening to Matthew and his views on the business. He seems like a really humble and genuine guy. Also, digging your Talking Heads shirt!
Loved the last time he was on. Seems like a cool guy. Looking forward to watching later!
I really liked how in the beginning of the interview Matthew was talking about not always liking to be associated just with Harry Potter and you turned it around by explaining why it can be a good thing. I just liked how it was turned positive and makes a lot of sense. I really only know him from Harry Potter but that's on me. It was so good to learn more about Matthew and hear him share his real feelings on how he sees himself and the work he's done. Amazing.
If there's one thing the last year has taught me, it's the value of adaptability
At this stage I'm just binge watching your podcasts! They give me so much joy. I love Matt - huge hp fan of the books and movies. Neville was one of my fav characters and Matt played him so well.
I wanna see Matthew as lead in a blockbuster or independent film!
Oh the irony of Michael trying to convince Matthew to revisit Neville in a TV series.
I just saw you in the Chris Farley Documentary yesterday night and you were great in it. The memories you shared with him was just awesome. You did a great job with re-enacting the Matt Foley persona.

Yes, we need your Podcasts. We can't go to conventions, so this is is one way to entertain ourselves during lockdown. I feel less alone listening to you and you guests. What I like best is learning about the persons you interview because they are so much more than the characters we know them for and people easily forget that it seems.
I’m not sure my heart can take two back to back Harry Potter guests. You’re spoiling us!!! 🥰 Speaking of which, May the 4th is on a Tuesday this year…It’s perfect for a Star Wars IOU. You could get that Weasley boy, Domhnall Gleeson and have a Harry Potter/Stars Wars crossover. It just makes so much sense and not just because it’s my idea…😏🤞
Matthew, I need to hear what you said at the 17:00 Dear Michael....I am a fan!
Matt casually holding a baseball in his hand the whole time
Matthew and Micheal look like each other.
Mathew is such a great guy loved him in harry potter glad to hear he has had more success since then that's great good for you man
Best thing about Tuesdays 💙 Really excited for this episode. Loved Matthew Lewis in Harry Potter. Can't wait to hear what stories he will share. Thank you for having him on the podcast again and thank you so much for asking my question. Thank you for all you do Michael and keep up the awesome work ^_^ Happy Tuesday 💙
Thanks for all the help during this difficult time. Your podcast has been a rare treat. Thanks for allowing us inside of you;)
Hearing Matt talking about he wants to play a Cowboy reminds me of Ken in the Barbie movie, living his dream life in his mojo dojo casa house :D Matthew, you are a great actor and great guy! Thanks for giving Neville a voice, he was always one of my favourite characters (besides Hermione of course). You portrayed him so well, his scatterbrainedness, his kindness and his courage
Not guna lie.. this podcast made quite emotional😢 Mathew we love you and you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself :(( you have a big heart and deserve so much❤️ be proud of your work! It’s not cringe🥺 have u seen Jason Isaacs, his whole office is full of little momentos of his life/ career and it’s so wholesome! You can showcase your things to your children when your older, they will be so proud of you❤️
You do you, Matthew!
and youre right its good to talk out your problems i hope i can get more help when this virus crisis passes thanks for the show
I think it was his second episode of All Creatures Great and Small before I realized it was Matthew. Which shows he did a great job of stepping into that character. I’d love to see Tom Felton on here. He has been quite musical on social media so they would have lots to talk about.

Neville Longbottom, the true hero of the Harry Potter series.... Without him, Harry would have lost to "He who must not be named".... Great Actor.....
Matthew seems like such a cool guy. Also I love his accent.
Matthew’s mic sound quality is SUPER clean!
He was great the first time he was on! I’m sure this one is just as great if not better! Keep up the awesome work, Rosey! 😘💙Going to watch now!
Such a great episode. He definitely opened up. I agree that it is important to do what you love for a living and not letting your job define you. I enjoyed his performance in All Creatures Great and Small.
Such a humble and cool dude. Glad to know a little more about him. Great interview!
I love him as an actor and not because we share a Surname - though that might be part of it ;). I thought his performance in Harry Potter was really great. He was under used in all of the films but his scenes were always stealers and brought smiles. The moment in the last movie when he pulled the Sword out of the Hat, it was beautiful! I legit cried in that scene, start to finish. I spent the last week re-watching all HP Films so everything is Fresh in my head. Matthew, give yourself a positive review. You are lovely. What I hear him saying throughout this conversation is he's got issues with meeting other's expectations and concerns about failure. Both are natural responses to life situations but it seems like a very prominent part of his daily life. I have to wonder if this is a thread of the amount of rejection actors experience in their lives. So, baseline concern might be self-worth issues and seeing the positive ways a person can be a part of something or the skills they bring to the table. He alludes to this when talking about self-promotion. That is a hard thing to do in any career when you don't feel like you will be a success or even average at what you do. Might even lead to experiencing imposter syndrome for some folks. A great self-reflection in this conversation! Thank you for opening up and sharing such intimate thinking about your personal life. I quite enjoy hearing the stories of people and the ways they struggle and overcome their concerns. Cheers! Stay positive!
Love your podcast thank you for your hard work
When you interview someone that actually has there own mic finally lol
I look forward to watching this when I finish work tonight. 😊💙
That was a fun, entertaining interview , and openly honest. I loved every bit of it!!!!! Thanks Michael 💕💕💕🌺🌺
Great interview. Love to get to know more about Matthew! I cried through the whole part when he talked about Alan Rickman.
As a Leeds lass living in London, this reminded me how ridiculous our accent is 🤣 Though I have so much respect for him acknowledging the difference with being anxious and having anxiety and stating he only experiences being anxious. Many people say they have anxiety when they just feel anxious every so often when it's very normal to so. Far from having anxiety
Such great advice from you both! As a young Canadian female actor (who hasn't really "made it") I love the whole "Do it for yourself." because it's the BEST advice for any artist. I may not be Hollywood or whatever but I can at least create things for the love of it and if people 'get it' great! if not that's okay, but as long as I did it for ME that's all that matters :)
As I listen to this, I am reminded of a quote from the Bare Naked Ladies. (I think I am paraphrasing) "An overnight success. Ten years in the making"
Saw this guy it UK TV shows; Ripper St and Bluestone 42 and he was brilliant. Well worth a watch.
Matthew was so humble and funny, awwsome episode. I look forward to Michael taking pictures of the guest room 😉
Matthew Lewis is interested in doing a Western? That's cool. Ok I just thought of this: A live action movie based on The Order: 1886 (2015) video game, it's a game set in London with revolvers and Tesla canons and Werewolves, etc. I could see Matthew playing a young version of Galahad (the lead character), which would be great because it leaves more than enough time to get around to a sequel if the studio went that way, and Matthew is a big enough star to lead such a project but also "unknown" enough that we'd see the character rather than the actor if you get what I mean.
Omg yay! He was my favorite of the kid characters:) I was just in Universal too! Harry Potter world there was excellent! Love the Harry Potter guests!!!!

It was a great conversation. I had so much fun watching it.
As a southerner, most actors get our accent VERY wrong. It's always so exaggerated. British and Australians seem to do it better than American actors.
I love ❤️ Matt from Harry Potter as Neville long bottom was amazing and a wonderful actor and the movies were incredible so were the books. The conversation between these two guys r interesting and love listening to the stories, but Michael makes my day every time. I like their smiles and laughs both handsome , and excited to hear the guests that u have on each week ❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏💿💿 I love micheals different 🧢 hats😎😎
Rosenbaum, I have an idea: You should let your guests ask you a few questions. Like, would you join DC films? Not necessarily as Lex, I actually think you'd be a good Deadman. Just imagine if Christopher Nolan did a Justice League Dark film with Christian Bale as Batman, Michael Rosenbaum as Deadman, Keanu Reeves as Constantine, Christopher Judge as Etrigan... Oof. Now that would be one hell of a movie.
Great conversation! I love this podcast.
Tom Felton next 😌
Thanks, Rosey! Thanks, Ryan! Thanks, Matthew! 🌹
thhat ending .. shows you guys are buds, having random funny moments like that :)
An awesome Tuesday with another awesome episode. Love the chit chats as always Rosey, great job. 👍 Everyone needs to listen to these pod, it's so real to everyone's life. Thank u guys.
I have never accepted Rotten Tomatoes, they appear to be very bias most likely based on who is willing to pay for a good review. IMDB rating always seem to be pretty spot on.

Almost didn't recognized Matthew Lewis, He's much more handsome than Neville!!! I'm a 50 year old man and I still love the Harry Potter Movies. (Sorry, no time for the books.) Oh, and Rosey, Since you're friends with Harland Williams: Please tell him how much I appreciate him acting in 'Big Money Hustlers" with the INSANE CLOWN POSSE!!! Whoop Whoop!
Loved hearing from Matt i love how humble he is and how his friend keeps his head from getting too big by keeping it real with his movie reviews 😅 Did you guys first meet at Adelaide Supanova?

Yeah, I am really digging these guests. Matthew seems funny and makes a lot of sense with his thoughts on critics and all that. Definitely liked Michael's thoughts about Rotten Tomatoes lol!!!
cool statuee of indiana jones michael rosenbaum its nice you talked with some famous actors, jason issacs theone i know from the patriot who acted real badass, and know matthew lewis, who has my first name, the harry poter series seems to have been adventerous, ive been watching smallville more recently and comedy shows, its not easy for me during these times due to covid and the lost of my dad so im taking one day at a time im glad the covid cases here are coming down causeOH LORD ive never seen a virus like this
OMG, Loved him!
Love this guy so much! Also love his accent.
Great show!! Careful with the SSRI's for anxiety. If you start sweating profusely you have taken to much. You should do a documentary on the art of playing the villain. You have a good start with your guests. Jason Issacs, Clancy Brown and yourself. A show or a movie is only as good as the villain. The hero is easy his path is set....the villain has a much more interesting origin story and his life often parallels that of the hero. I usually root for the villain!! Back on point, I like how all of your guest are so comfortable with you that they have no problem opening up about their emotional and mental problems. It makes your guests relatable, which makes them likeable. Keep up the good work!
Matthew is such a great looking chap. Amazing how the Neville character hid that super coolness factor. By last movies I grew to see Neville for the badass he was!!!
He was great in the new All Creatures Great and Small.

I relate to Matt so fucking much God damn.
As a teen, I was also often called 'Matty'. I hated it as well lol
Such a sweet guy!
Neville was the most relatable character for me because I was literally him even though I wished I was Harry lol
Rosey !, I was repeating last weeks interview with Jason Isaacs, it was great. Thanks for this one. Shout out to Ryan.😆 Again, best podcast.
I would love to watch a TV series about Neville Longbottom the Auror, investigating crimes, using his in-depth knowledge of Herbology to solve murders.
He's still so cool

Mathew Lewis be good playing as the Marvel character Nova in the MCU.
Oh man! This was great! You guys were fucking funny! Love you guys, great job!
I was not a fan of the Potter films. I am here to listen to Matthew and see how he is doing.
SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL! BIG FAN OF YOUR OSCAR WORTHY ACTING IN SMALLVILLE. Okay I am done with the caps XD just a big fan here! 😉 I would like to add that usually it takes the stars to line up for you have multiple roles where you would be defined as a "Big Star". Take Will Smith for example, the stars aligned where it just so happened to have multiple movies where he is perfect for the role. So as long as you work 100% at what you do, and everyone else does the same....you've got a hit. There are just certain roles that we all cannot play, and there are some that we would be truly perfect for but it was given to someone else. The stars have to align for anything truly great to be born! Sorry if I offended you or anyone! I'm bad at first impressions XD

I am so confused about how WB was perfect with Harry Potter and messed up DC.
@saimanno4078
3 жыл бұрын
Because WB owns DC and for Harry Potter they were just distributors of the movies.
One question I was expecting that wasn't asked... Whether he'd work with any of his HP co-stars again. I was also expecting a more tame conversation (recently watched the episode with the Phelps twins and it was the opposite of how I thought it would go), not Matthew throwing out f bombs lol
Iremember watching amovie with the guy harrison forde who plays as indiana jones, his plane was hijacked as he was the president in the movie,he tackled the hijacker and said as the highjacker was shocking him GET OFF MY PLANE AND WAM kicked out into 30000 feet cool actor, harrison forde is famous for his movie on the lost ark of the covenant and other adventures
