Matthew Hopkins: The Witch Hunter (Occult History Explained)
Ойын-сауық
In the 17th century, a man known as Matthew Hopkins would become something of a boogeyman for alleged witches of the time. Not only did he hunt down witches, but he broke them, tortured them and saw them hanged.

He was clearly an inspiration, so the confusion is understandable.
He also wrote a book, A Discovery of Witches, in response to Gaul's accusations with the real belief this would help him win back some influence. Apparently it describes what he did and why and only proved further that he was actually not very nice

I find it peculiar that the English used hanging as the prescribed method of execution while continental Europeans prescribed burning at the stake? Is there any exact reason for that?

Last minute repentance. That's where they fucking end up anyway. And down there they beg and beg. And have no breathe of life. So they choke. Not a SINGLE human can handle that. Especially not a retarded witch. So you put a little pressure. You push the harshest pain buttons in their soul and they WILL cry for forgiveness. So they can get saved last minute. And you get the added benefit of the people feeling safe believing that there IS justice on earth.

I would disagree with the fact that your average peasant back then did not really believe or support the witch trials. Witch hunts were more of a political tool. Curses were always illegal, but not a death sentence.

The era of people got executed over suspicion of withcraft and the way Matthew hopkins method to find the witch by drown them is rather....just like what cancel culture is that is rather scary since internet can ruin your career and life over random accusation or just because your past mistakes even small jokes.
this is Awesome :)
Scary how the way you describe England then, sounds very much like now 🥴
This is the best piece I have come across on Hopkins: nearly all the other uploads are just about a misogynist in a world of misogynists going around looking for women to kill: none of them even mentioned the 'execution' of Reverend John Lowes that led to Hopkins' downfall.
forgot something with the drown or float thing, in the netherlands we had these things where they placed a piece of wood on one spot, and on the other one the woman, wich was a saver way to identify witches, also, monty python did the same thing but with a duck
You should do a video on the demon belial
You should put together a video of people who claim to be witch hunters now and the murder cases where they said the victim was a witch.

What with witch trials, a civil war, another outbreak of bubonic plague, food shortages, and most of London burning down, the seventeenth century was a pretty shitty one. At least in the UK.

The witchfinder general??
Almost every story being told about witch hunters on youtube always makes them look like the bad guys and the witches the innocent saints. When you control the narrative you can make evil look good and good look evil.
There cannot ever exist any such person or personage by way of what these people only believed. What this means of course is that thousands upon thousands of people were terrorized, were imprisoned in horrible conditions, were unspeakably tortured in the cruelest and most barbarous of ways, were murdered in any one of the most depraved and agonizing of ways - and every single one of them, was entirely guilt-free of what they were pursued, - condemned, - and murdered for. I fear that by God's very emissaries I am far more likely to be condemned - than saved. I can only wonder. 😐
I know you can't blame this on Christianity. Hopkins was hired by towns, not by churches. He was canny enough to know that if you want people to buy what you're doing, assume the mantle of the most popular religion in the area. Hopkins was serving Hopkins.

I really do hope this comment is ironic. Witches don’t exist and the witch trials were a prime example of when you mindlessly believe the accusers with no regard of the accused. There’s a reason that the term “Witch trials” is still used to describe instances in which someone is accused of a crime and law enforcement actively forces them to confess regardless of whether or not it’s true.

When a nation is beset by natural and man-made disasters, those of faith will rightly conclude that God has a reason, and that reason is usually rebuking of sinful acts of those in power. In Asian, specifically, China, it is called the Mandate of Heaven. Even those who were never taught of Christ or the Christian theology, can see the works of the Almighty by this display of power.
