Aleister Crowley: The Father of the Occult (Occult History Explained)

Ойын-сауық

Perhaps one of the most bizarre and baffling men in recent history, Aleister Crowley not only inspired people to join Thelema, but he was also thought to be a spy, a sorcerer, a satanist and....a seducer of anything with a pulse.

Crowley was hardcore, he purposely contracted disease in order to experience the altered state of consciousness it invoked. I can sorta relate in that I let a rattlesnake bite me to experience the venom...and let me tell you, it was awesome! However, the almost $100,000 hospitalization (with anti-venom @ $20k/bag) for 5 days made it the most expensive buzz I've ever had.

Alister Crowley is not the father of occult. He is just one of the first people in the West to create a syncretic system that mixed in a lot of traditions from multiple religious practices.

Agreed. He's like an L Ron Hubbard. Everything Crowley did was not based on anything legitimate. He made it all up and he did it to serve himself. Just look at a lot of his photos and you see a man all caught up in his own story. I really hate that his rhetoric has made its way into the occult.

@@KimberlyLetsGo I don’t think he made it all up. I think you can channel any and every character your mind draws a relevancy to. Just bc egyptian gods might not exactly be the answer does that mean he couldn’t draw power from it. I bet he knew about egypt before hand etc and subconsciously was attracted to such when he did occult stuff. Kind of like masonry eh , any one can join despite what god source they believe in.

After a certain point, he would never engage in intercourse purely for pleasure. There was always some aim or objective for which he would direct the encounter. He's probably one of the most interesting characters in modern history, but he was a son of a bitch all the way. He ruined so many people's lives who were close to him, even if it was just for a brief time, he utterly devastated people either financially, physically, psychologically, morally, or spiritually. He gives me the creeps just to look at him.

Aleister Crowley did not reject his faith until after his father's death. Before this point, he was quite devout. He admired his father and always referred to him as his "best friend". Although Crowley certainly had his issues and faults, (all humans do,) we also have to remember he was quite ill most his life, was bullied and tormented in school, and did not have exactly have strong, caring adults in his life to help prepare him for adulthood and all the uncertainties that come with it. His sect he grew up in only taught him how to HIDE from the world, not how to live in it. Everything was therefore "evil" and I think this made him believe all true pleasure was evil, and to want it and enjoy anything must make him "evil". Also, his mother called him the Beast for things most teenagers nowadays get by with. Give ANY OF US Emily Bertha Bishop for a mum and we'd all be crazy and running around in wizard capes before too long. She picked apart and reprimanded him for every children's book he read, every idea he ever had. It was wild. Think Nurse Ratched. But your mum.

His childhood was fairly normal for any boy of the late 1800s except he was rich and after leaving Trinity college he spent his inheritance traveling, doing drug ritual sex acts and being a selfish wanker. His arch in spirituality went from his father's Christianity to black magic occultism because of his own depraved bent interests not because he was "running away" from the church. He ran into demonology because he wanted, in his words, "supreme spiritual sin".. Many people reject their Sunday school days without spending the rest of their life performing sacrifice and invoking infernal forces in sex magic rituals in multiple countries and destroying lives for decades...

Sounds like he only behaved in a very rebellious way was cause he was forced Religion(specifically Christianity) down his throat from an early age which is the same reason why most kids and teens do the same. Force them one path and they take the other. He debated Christianity probably cause he wasn't afraid to ask "why". Not saying he was a Saint but he was just human like the rest of us. Nothing wrong with Occultism and anything outside of Christianity or any religion, it's just individuals with the flaw of human behavior is what pervert them.

I have gained a few irreversible and awesome insights from Crowley and his students, but it can get out of hand in the beginning if you’re not discerning enough. There is no doubt Thelema is dangerous for some people. Whether you believe in the occult or not, some people taking his works entirely literally could cause themselves or others some remarkable problems. However, I suppose you could say that’s not his problem, and there are a lot of things that could cause massive problems if taken out of context. For example, the Bible.

Crowley was demonized as everyone who goes against the grain of the Church. People tend to conveniently forget that Moses was given the ability to cast Magick. I would hazard to say worse Magick than anyone in existence ever, considering he was directky responsible for the destruction of cities, crops, and thousands of Egyptian deaths. Read the Golden Dawn. It's the establishment Crowley built. You'll find nothing in his writings or teachings that even remotely show he was a dark figure. Simply put: Crowley was misunderstood, feared for what he could do, and his Opus was the fact we still study and speak about him today. And some of us practice what he did and have benefitted because of it.

@Alex You folks are so quick to forget your own past transgressions and short comings, but are quick to point out everyone else's. A Pagan has not once, ever, destroyed a culture so that they could get money to build churches and infrastructure. A Pagan, excluding Norseman, has never, NEVER enslaved an entire substrata of people to build over top of monuments they regularly worshipped at so that a glorious pictograph stained glass window of Christ and Mary could be the center of the town.

Spin clockwise(yang northern hemisphere/yin southern hemisphere) or counterclockwise (yin northern hemisphere/yang southern hemisphere) (torus spinning). Chant either of these mantras 3 times each while facing east, west, north(in the southern hemisphere), or south(in the northern hemisphere): "aum"("a" like "tom", "u" like "two" and "mmm") and "om"(like "home"). Sleep with your head placed east, west, south(in northern hemisphere), or north(in southern hemisphere). Perform the Tibetan five rites(a series of yoga stretches)at least 3 times each.

He didn’t condemn Christianity because he was a rich kid. This narrative is actually a very amateur one. His grandfather owned the distillery and his father didn’t believe in spending the money made from “drunks” as his parents were extremely religious Christians. In fact they were so extremely religious that he [Aleister] was about to die as a young man from starvation by his parents because they didn’t believe in having any more out of life than what they needed. This included food, which ultimately left him with malnutrition. His doctors said he was expected to die in the coming months. He was sent to live with his uncle who brought him back to good health. His uncle also allowed Crowley to have fun and indulge. He took him to bars and even paid prostitution for him to lose his virginity. When he had returned to his parents his vision of them was obviously altered at that point. After becoming aware that their radical religious views had nearly killed him and also sheltered him from the many indulgences and desires in the world. This led to his radical rejection of Christianity. This also led to the creation of his belief “The Law”. “Do what thou wilt, shall be the whole of the Law.”

Sounds like a rich kids logic though... How does one blame Christianity and not his parents? Clearly if someone is starving to death they are not eating what is "needed". Christianity doesn't encourage parents to starve their children to death. His argument would have been against an institution of thought which could have led people down a path of abusing that institution and hurting others by relation. Such an institution as "Thelema" which many have apparently used as an excuse to perform rape and human sacrifice because they want to have demon powers.
