"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;" (Phil 2:12)
Matthew Henry (1662-1714) was a 17th and early 18th Century minister of the Gospel and Calvinist biblical exegete in Chester, England, and died in 1714. Quoting Charles Spurgeon: "First among the mighty for general usefulness we are bound to mention the man whose name is a household word, Matthew Henry. He is most pious and pithy, sound and sensible, suggestive and sober, terse and trustworthy...."
He was born near Wales on October 18, 1662 and was primarily home-educated by his father, Rev. Philip Henry, and also at the Thomas Doolittle academy from 1680-1682. He first started studying law in 1686, but instead of pursuing a career in law he began to preach in his neighborhood.
After the declaration of liberty of conscience by James II in 1687, he was privately ordained in London, and on June 2, 1687, he began his regular ministry as non-conformist pastor of a Presbyterian congregation at Chester. He remained in this position for 25 years. After declining several times offers from London congregations, he finally accepted a call to Hackney, London, and began his ministry there May 18, 1712, shortly before his death.
His reputation rests upon his renowned commentary, An Exposition of the Old and New Testaments (1708-10, known also as Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible). He lived to complete it only as far as to the end of the Acts, but after his death other like-minded authors prepared the remainder from his manuscripts. This work was long celebrated as the best English commentary for devotional purposes and the expanded edition was initially published in 1896. Instead of critical exposition, his focuses on practical suggestion, and his commentaries contains rich stores of truths. There is also a smaller devotional commentary on the Bible from Henry known as Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary.

You did ask God whether you should? For God is your teacher… just asking, not judging… not that you owe me any answer, just asking so you might ask Him if you Havnt already. God bless you and yours in everything as He wills, in Jesus Name, amen. All the best! :)

May i ask then this question...because i already have my own thoughts according to these Scripture...Can a person lose their salvation, it appears to me the answer be is yes... There are a lot of great preachers and teachers of those time. Some say no you can't others who have said you can...im one of those followers who wants and need the admonishment so as not to have someone to fall in a ditch. You know the blind leading the blind...i hope im not misplacing scripture but i also am thinking of the strait gate vs the broad gate as well as Matthew 7:21-23. i know that part of it is about willful sinning and justification is in salvation but im asking you because you posted this clip. Is there a full sermon on this subject. i know Pastor Spurgeon was Calvinist but i need to know from both perspectives. Can and would you post videos from both... Because the harvest be plenty and labourers few as in Matthew 9, i need answers to questions that i try to prepare for but can't. i always pray Holy Spirit will give me an answer that will edify but i feel im falling way short...Please help me...also i want to say thank you again for your posting of these men of God with timeless sermons for the edification of the saints...God bless you and Shalom!

Thank you for your comment and question, Ya Ya. I don't share other perspectives because I believe there is only one perspective that is true, namely that one cannot lose their salvation. John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.” Philippians 1:6being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ I share with you a sermon that I hope will shed some light on this matter for you. May you find it a blessing. God's Will and Man's Will! - Charles Spurgeon Sermon kzread.info/dash/bejne/h6uTu8iTlrOYqdY.html

@@ChristisLord ...thank you sooo much for those Scripture verses. i hear your teaching completely and i will very much listen and study the sermon and Scriptures. This walk has definitely been a difficult and lonely one but i know what apostle Paul said constantly pressing forward keeping our eyes on the prize. Besides im still tryna get over why would God even want somebody like me for anything. It makes me so so so grateful also i didn't get left out in my own wilderness. i know it's ALL Him...so thank you again...Blessings!

"Besides im still tryna get over why would God even want somebody like me for anything." Believe me, brother, I feel EXACTLY the same way about myself; but praise God, we know that salvation depends NOT upon our own merits, but upon the finished work of Christ. May God continue to bless the work He is doing in you and through you, my friend.
