Matte & Gloss PPF Installation - See The Difference Between Them

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

PPF (Paint Protection Film) is a great product if you're looking to get the most durability out of a vinyl wrap while also maintaining the original factory color of your car. Typically this comes in the form of gloss but also comes in matte for a more unique "frozen" style look to the factory paint. Whichever one you choose, you can rest assured that they will protect your paint from the harsh conditions of daily driving.

I find the biggest contributing factor is driving habits .The closer you drive behind people the more impacts occur . And the more a person is impatient they tend to hug your rear bumper . I learned my lesson driving behind a dump truck full of gravel and they didn’t clean off the spill on the bumper . The windshield looked like a spiderweb

Doing PPF reminds me of the days of phone screen protectors that were PTFE and you did “Wet” install method. Funny thing is; even today with the tempered glass screen protectors out there, I miss the old PTFE and Wet install method protectors. Imo, they installed easier, quicker, & loved the self healing on them. But tempered glass is king right now. Thx CK for this demo, brings back memories, & like the new PPF w/ color now that you did; now that was killer👍🏻 Cheers✌🏻

Man, can't get enough of your videos but I am demoralized today. I attempted to wrap my silverado hood yesterday with my son's help (vvivid satin black) and it was either too large or tall or too advanced for me to try as I had only practiced on a smaller front end piece. Failed hard and cursed a few thousand times! I still have enough to try again, wondering if I should I just take to someone nearby who is a pro and will they even use my vinyl? thx for the education sir.

I tried a small testing piece and it took me over 2 hours on the hard parts of the trunk.. HOW THE HELL YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY??? guess I will try again tomorrow but if you can give a few pointers on how to tackle this when I try a bigger piece I will appreciate it a lot.. tried to glass it but i have 2 high points on both sides and a high point at the tip above the symbol and between I have a curved low point so.. yeah.. filled with air😅 sorry for the long and messy comment, a little frustrated.. have a great week bud

i use a heat gun on a low setting to seal and wrap my edges. you can definitely get yourself in a pickle very fast with your much heat for sure. i find installing in a colder shop hot water it my friend to get it to relax. also use my steamer to get the hard valleys down. i agree with no purpose of the cap sheet on ppf a big waste and a lot of plastic. our 3m line we use thankfully they don’t use a cap sheet but some of our 60” wide is capped

If car is extremelt exposed to sunlight 5 years max , beyond 5 years PPF removal will be a mess and the whole thimg will come off like crakced plastic. I just saw a car with PPF for 7 years removed and it was horrible and labour intensive.

Hi Chris. I am going to embark on my first wrapping attempt on my NC Miata because of all of your fantastic videos. Front bumper, rear spoiler , mirrors and the hood or at least part of it. My question is about the hood and PPF. If I do all the hood, this isn't an issue. If I do a carbon fiber inlay in the center relief area of the hood, similar to the Land Rover you did 4 years ago with knifeless tape but having the front exposed and not wrapped under an edge, can I put PPF over the hood and that carbon fiber section and will it have any issue at those edges around the carbon fiber. It will protect it from water and wind which is my intent. Do I have to worry about water getting in the CF as I apply the PPF? I have not found a video of you putting PPF over an exposed edge of another wrap like carbon fiber yet to know of any pitfalls I might encounter.

  • @coenmeijer8018

The back of the blade is the side Thats not cutting the vinyl, you slide this part of the blade across the body panel opposite of the one youre working on. This leaves you with enough vinyl to truck in, doesnt damage paint and Provides a clean cut

I don't agree with the heat gun thing for PPF. We use it all the time for locking down edges and corners. For sure it's used completely different than in vinyl wrapping but heatgun doesn't necessarily crack TPU versus PVC. For PPF, a heatgun is used to lock down edges and tight corners. For vinyl which you're more of an expert, I think you use heatguns or torches to preheat and also postheat to break memory in the vinyl? Sorry we're not vinyl wrapping experts......

  • @CKWraps

I use a heat gun as well on PPF but it's like you said, only for edges and corners to lock it down for a bulk install. What I mean in the video is that using a heat gun to stretch the PPF can cause cracking.
