Maybe it’s just me, but $1500-$10,000 would buy you a pretty nice separate beat around vehicle to split mileage/wear and tear that you could drive in winter and also preserve more value than just PPF. An occasional rock chip/scratch or let the whole car rust out...idk I debate it.

I went in to the Lombard shop for PPF estimate on my 2019 Raptor. $2100 for most of the front end with nice wrapped edges, but not the grill or fender flares. You can pick and choose what gets covered. I'm working on getting my paint looking better 1st. I got some good cleaning products and a clay bar last time I went in. Now I see why the process costs so much! If I can do something about my paint chips(soo many chips), I might do the PPF in the future. Goals. The guys in the shop are knowledgeable and not too bothered by all my questions. Thanks fellas. And can I get a ride in the racing sim next time?

It doesn’t last that long. Maybe 3to 5 years if that realistically , they actual fade n I’ve seen stone chips get threw the coating, if you wait 5 years it wil be hard to remove n may damage the paint. Don’t waist your money. Just have it professional detailed 3 times a year n your car will look better. Most people only keep cars for 3 to 5 years anyway.

What's the story with carwash restrictions? Will it loosen the ppf or stain it?

Question two: why didn't you use the xpel film with the built in ceramic coating?

In short it's like applying window tint film to a the body instead of glass. Same basic principals and tools. Soapy water, squeegees, bone tools, olfa knife etc. Float the film on clean surface and squeegee out all air and liquid to insure a crystal clear bond and let it dry out. Oh I can remember the feel of film in between my teeth and the snap it made when you would grind your teeth just enough to separate the film from the backing.

Wow that’s a tedious task. Ceramic coating is definitely easier and quicker. But the scratching and self healing is miraculous. Both are phenomenal, I’m enjoying learning about both processes.

@lewislevits1193 thanks for the tip. Makes sense. To me Ceramic Coating sounds better. I drive my car everyday, I can avoid some things but wear is gonna happen. I think it’s easier and cheaper for touch ups vs re wrapping.

When the PPF has reached the end of its life cycle, what will the paint look like when the PPF is removed? It seems like the adhesive would affect the finish after years of being baked on by the sun.

I believe if the entire car is covered, it'll be okay once removed. If you have a partial hood done or something, the UV damage on uncovered paint will be noticable when removed.

is it true to wait one month before doing the ppf for the new car to allow the solvent to be released from the paint??
