Hey!!! I loved the video; it helped us understand what options are available. But I have one more question. How does a satin finish PPF affect the different performance specs of each brand? do all the brands have a satin/matte alternative to there PPF? does this change affect hydrophobic qualities and or scratch-resistant qualities? Most of them are right about the same range between 1200-1500 per roll and that's for a 5 x 50 feet. What will cost a lot is the labor if you pay a shop to do it. But regarding material costs, it's a bit tricky because a lot of the rolls you can't just buy off Amazon. I am curious to know how the self healing properties of the film work with a ceramic coating applied on top of the film.
@tesbros
Жыл бұрын
The PPF won't need to self heal if the elements can't get to it due to a ceramic coating. If scratches make it all the way to the PPF, that means that area is exposed, and it'll self heal.

I believe that XPEL is designed to have a ceramic coating applied to the top of it; that would be A LOT harder to apply well if it was itself hydrophobic!

Lots of paint protection films come ceramic coated nowadays. They usually only last around 6 months though, and an additional coating applied on top is recommended if you want to keep the properties for a while

All of these are great. I typically use Avery or STEK, but you can't go wrong with any of these brands. Yes, you can add ceramic coating to all PPF to make it hydrophobic. I even recommend adding it to factory coated PPF as it will last years longer than the factory coating. You can DIY or have it pro installed. We like Gyeon Mohs Evo if you're going the DIY route. Yay! Thank you!
ppf is really hard if not impossible to find in bulk let alone as precut kits in the EU (outside of installers) for some reason, so I am pretty much limited to 3M and XPEL options for pre-cut kits (imported). I am suprised that 3M has a hydrophobic property since I cant find it anywhere in the specs on their site. I have heard Xpel is more forgiving but 3M Pro seems to be the better product overall. Is the film with hydrophobic properties even worth it or is it better to just apply a ceramic coat afterwards to get an even better result and does it interfer with the self healing property in any way?
@tesbros
2 жыл бұрын
If you're already gong to do a ceramic coating, I wouldn't worry about getting a PPF with hydrophobic properties. No, it doesn't interfere with self healing
I have the Xpel, do you know how long the self-healing is supposed to last? for any of them?
@tesbros
Жыл бұрын
PPF lasts between 5 and 7 years depending on how well it's taken care of. It'll most likely have self-healing properties for the life of it, however, it might lose some of its effectiveness as time goes on. It's hard to give an exact answer as it all depends on how much the car is driven, car washing habits, and general wear and tear.

What is the cost in terms of value to most expensive on these 4 for customers? Also have you all serviced the new Foaker Oceans yet?
@mrgold3591
4 ай бұрын
Pricing depends on installer if you don't plan to do it yourself. The cost comes from color correction, chip repair, and labor of installing the PPF. Notice prices are regional and depend on how many installers in the area. Some installers use custom cut sheets and others cut from large roll and form to almost any size that needs protection. Find an installer that "tucks the seams" in cracks and around corners to help hide the film for an invisible look. It can cost $300-$700 for front end bra (headlights, side mirrors, front bumper), $1000-$1500 for entire front end (hood, bumper, fenders, headlights, side mirrors), and $3500-$4500 to do an entire sedan. PPF like Suntek and XPEL have a 10 year warranty.

We mainly use STEK. It's solid.
Hi 👋🏼 good demonstration…on camera because you used a silver panel didn’t come across well maybe next time use a black or dark coloured panel.

Can you list them in order of easy installation 1 being easier to 4 difficult.
@tesbros
2 жыл бұрын
This is difficult because it really depends on the installer but a good installer will be able to problem solve and figure out a way to make it efficient. However, we installers have preferences. I personally prefer STEK and I like working with it but i've worked with many other brands.

@@tesbros that sound fair, I was looking for the DIY 1st timer. I like to try stuff first and if I do a terrible job take it to the Pros.

What about Teck wrap PPF?
If you want to make another video with these PPF brands, I have a gross test for you. Bird poop. Put the fender(?) with 4 different PPFs under a tree where birds perch. When sufficiently covered in poop, use a hose to see which PPF takes the least time and effort to clean. They'll likely all be clean with a pressure washer. I wanted to see which cleans fastest, easiest with just a garden hose. It's moot for me. After seeing you video, I got 3M PPF on my Tesla Model 3. When I say it looks great, I mean I don't see it at all. I clean my car with just a pressure washer. No problems on the PPF or the paint.
We started using hexis body fence. We used to use xpel, I'd just buy it a roll at a time from another shop, but xpel started cracking down on people selling it... i wonder how hexis will hold up.

@brocschugel1790 it's a little thinner, which makes stretching it easier. So far I like installing it better, we'll see how we'll it holds up.
You should have got an air riffle to mimic the rock/stone.

Does the 3m hydrophobic affect the ceramic coating bonding?
@tesbros

No, you can put ceramic coating over PPF with no problems. Confirm with your installer though to make sure the two brands/types are compatible.

@@mikeprice8307 usually they don’t recommend wax but check with the product and see if it is recommended to use with ppf.
Where can I purchase pre-cut PPF kits for my Tesla model 3? specifically 3M or STEK?

what temp does the film start to heal? dont want to burn my ppf
@tesbros
Жыл бұрын
Typically, it'll heal naturally from the sun. Minor scratches can disappear in as little as an hour at 72 degrees F. If you want to speed up the healing process, pour hot water (not boiling, just hot to the touch) over the scratched areas.
