Matt Damon - "Kiss the Future" | The Daily Show

Комедия

Award-winning actor Matt Damon shares why he stepped behind the camera to produce the critically acclaimed documentary, “Kiss the Future,” about Sarajevo’s music scene, how one man convinced U2 to help keep the world’s attention on the plight of Sarajevo during the Bosnian war, and how they fulfilled their promise to play a concert there helping bring people together after the war. Damon discusses how music and film can build empathy and dispel preconceptions that keep people more divided. #DailyShow #MattDamon #JordanKlepper

I am never surprised by Matt Damon. His grandparents, dad & younger brother grew up 3 houses down from my house growing up. His dad was older and out of the house when we were young, my sister and I knew his uncle in high school a bit, but afterwards a few years until I moved away. I came home cross country when my mother passed. Matt's uncle was the first person to arrive at my mom's wake and the last person to leave. A testament of rare, neighborly community instilled in this humble, gracious family.

Thank you, Matt, for spreading the story of our horrors. Thank you to somebody who survived Sarajevo during a war! Many people don’t understand, but our dark humor, survival skills, and desire to read or listen to music kept our sanity. Otherwise, we would go crazy! understand that we lived like this for almost four years without Basic needs such as electricity and water, and we were shot every day, literally from snipers to bombs, so that was the only way to keep our sanity and hope that one day it’s going to be better!

Great story. Even before the war, Sarajevo in the former Yugoslavia was the city known for its most vibrant music scene, so no surprise that music was what kept them going. (additional info - often "lost in translation" of Western media or documentaries: Yugoslavia consisted of 6 republics with their 6 constitutions and real wars broke out only in 2, in Bosnia and in Croatia, where Serbs were also a co-partnering nation so to speak, and had resided there in substantial numbers for centuries, such as in East Sarajevo and other parts of Bosnia or in southern parts of Croatia. That's what the war was about: Serbs trying to remain in their homes in those 2 republics. They did not succeed in Croatia (one quarter of a million expelled in Aug '95 in Operation Storm), but in Bosnia, Serbs managed to remain through the established Republic of Srpska as part of today's Bosnia (the Dayton Agreement), while Muslims got what's today called the Federation part of Bosnia. That's what the siege of Sarajevo was essentially all about.)

Thank you for that short summary. I remember being very confused about what was going on there and why. I had always thought of Yugoslavia as one of the freer nations in the Soviet sphere of influence. I hadn't yet taken World History in college, so I only had highschool history classes to go on, which wasn't that in-depth on that region or WWI. During the time of the war, I remember being stunned by the level deprivation people suffered, feeling surrounding trees for heating and cooking, and being sniped when doing ordinary things. I hadn't ever expected to see fighting on European soil again. One day, I hope to visit your beautiful country and region. May peace continue 💚✊

The biggest yugoslav republic Serbia had a power hungry dictator in charge who started short war in Slovenia and long wars and ethnic cleansing in Croatia, Bosnia and southern serbian province of Kosovo. Also contributed to the war in Northern Macedonia with huge number of refugees from Kosovo. Ultimately his regime crumbled after economically destroying his own country. Serbia lost all wars and was the only republic to lose territory in the end, with many people killed and lives destroyed across all of former Yugoslavia, but a class of people from dictator's regime got very wealthy. At the same time in the 90s, Czechs and Slovaks gave up on their joint country of Czechoslovakia in a peaceful way. So there was another way. (Check history books for more information)

@@Lawrence.Laurentius Textbook Western media version, what you described😊some of my other comments here have been deleted by YT and censored. Oh, well..Simply speaking it's like this: if a nation accepts to be occupied by NATO, like Czechs/Slovaks etc, no need for war. If there is a black sheep, such as Serbia, which was the only republic that was against NATO, still is and had to be bombed into submission (but only of its Kosovo part, that's how far NATO got with Serbia)..then they're smeared by Western media and by other republics that accept NATO occupation (Croatia, Slovenia, N. Macedonia) and people who watch Western media are fed with info such as "power hungry dictator".."started a war" blabla..Have it your way...

I don't think he was trying to con people. A lot of people really believed in crypto. I never did but i could have been wrong. If the heads of these companies weren't criminals like every CEO it seems maybe things would have been different. But i don't think Matt had anyway of knowing what the CEO was up to. I do think it's a cautionary tale though and celebs should be careful on what they endorse as it can end up really hurting their image

by making this film only available to paying subscribers of a specific streaming service it gives the impression that making money from the effort is more important than getting the humanist message out as wide as possible.

You're not understanding how film distribution works today. Someone buys the completed film and agrees to foot the bill for the marketing worldwide, which is a huge financial commitment. Of course it's something you need to pay to see. Think of films as commodities. Hollywood is Wall Street, it's all about return on investment. I hope that helps.
