Great fight on paper, but Ergashev wanted to make it a fire fight and Matias did what he does. Thats now 5 fights in a row where his opponent retired on the stool. Thats terrifying.

Some fighters walk you down but Matias literally walks you down. He makes benavidez look like a ballet dancer.

The way Matías throws those hooks again remind me of how Beterbiev does it. Effortless and almost as if he's just swatting his opponent. I wasn't aware of all those vulnerabilities he has. You've really laid them bare in this video. Regarding Ergashev, it really took a while before he got a title shot. I remember people talking about him half a decade ago in facebook boxing groups. He does leave himself open when he throws that left. Those faults they have are more noticeable now that I've seen the breakdowns of Bivol you've uploaded. He's so defensively responsible and keeps his hands/arms in the right place all the time.

Ergashev have only fought cherries and Matias have KO power punchers that were supposed to beet Matias. Subriel Matias 100%. It's going to be the first time Ergashev fight a real 100% fighter.

If Mattias checks his ego , moves his head (he likes to show he's tougher than you) and works the jab overtime, I see a late rd stoppage for him. His volume is straight savage.

Great stuff! Since some of my friends either sparred or trained alongside Ergashev, he never fulfilled even half of hopes people had for him and turned out to be a big letdown. Something always falls apart for him. I think he drops the ball again and gets stopped second half.

Is he really a let down if he’s a 23-0 champion?

Ergashev uses that long guard more than any boxer I've seen for a while. Bivol uses a long guard but he does it in a lot of different ways. Ergashev just sticks it out there. I guess it's worked for him so far.

Ergashev only hit with the left hand and he shows it before he throws it,matias will be blocking it with his right or moving his head.question is will ergashev be ready for the pressre?

I saw the negligent footwork by Mathias and Ergashev executing the most sloppy pendulum in the Caucuses, too. These are both serious issues, but with Ergashev leaving himself open as a southpaw to arguably the most dangerous lead hand hook in boxing, I learn toward Mathias, because Ergashev's liver is available as well as his chin. But this fight is all about range.

Really excited for this one

I see ergashev getting countered by Matias when he overextends and squares up after throwing the back hand. The beautiful thing about Matias is he doesn’t need to plant his feet to unload power shots - he’s just that heavy handed. Matias TKO 7 - 8

So glad you made this. This fight has been under-promoted. I've even uploaded a little clip of Ergashev sparring to create some buzz around the fight. This has all the makings of a classic. These types of fights shorten careers. Expect a blood bath if this dont end early. A very tough fight to call. Ergashev has educated footwork and can maintain distance well, but his combination are repetitive. On the inside Ergashev don't seem comfortable. I favour Ergashev, but the lack of experience could be his undoing. I can see him banking the early rounds but as the fight goes on will he be able to maintain his foundational structure. I got Ergashev winning but its a tough one.

Matias is a freak of nature! He has so many flaws yet no one can seem to beat him

In 2020 Tony Louis was scheduled to fight Ergashev before the world shut down. I was his primary sparring partner in camp and studied ALL of Ergashev's fights. I'm really impressed with this breakdown. I think this comes down to 2 things, who can hold their ground (as you said), and who can maintain their posture. I believe Ergashev's framing and physicality will fall apart if Matias can stay stacked, and then i think Ergashev will be his own undoing, falling into exchanges with no recovery functional tactics. Thank you guys for this breakdown, agreed this fight is flying under the radar!

I got Matias stopping him maybe goes 7 or 8. I don’t see Ergashev being able to stop Matias from working in the inside. The back foot forward first is the way he gets in the inside with timing he only does it when he’s in the right distance.

I'm not sure if this is the opponent but Matias is going to pay for that horrible footwork and distance management from somebody. I really don't know enough about the guy he's fighting here but it could be an interesting fight for a while. I think this one is really going to be about which fighter is going to be able to establish his distance. My guess is that Matias will eventually get to him but I don't know enough about the guys he's fighting to be sure.

I like matias want him to win but what if that pressure don't work what's his gameplan hes 100%offense

It looks like a very good fight…it looks like that Ergashev will be giving Matias a lot of problems early and maybe stagger him a bit…but even though Matias is weirdly inconsistent, what he does best is makes fights messy and difficult for his opponents until they tire and break…I think Matias will either get the decision or eventually break Ergashev in the latter…but Matias chin could be tested too much for this fight, but we’ll see….I’m unsure about Matias, he seems very tough but as he goes on to face heavier hitters in the weight class it might prove to be too much, and maybe starts here… Matias is almost like a slick version of Benavidez…I really find him to be one of the most interesting fighters today because that… Great work….

Great analysis, so well covered in any aspect. Looks like Ergashev has more tools and can say, in general, have better boxing skills. BUT i think Matias has more instint for destuction, better condition and hands of steel. That’s not what that means. Plus, this was Coach Joey and Jacob. 50/50 pre fight means they are evenly matched on paper or the analyst can’t pick a clear winner. The analysts were incredibly accurate pointing out that either Ergeshev controls distance and pummels Matias or Matias closes distance and stops Ergeshev. Coach Joey took the upset so he was wrong on the prediction. They were dead on with how the fight could play out. I don’t know how you missed that

The gist was stoppage either way. Both analysts left room for either outcome. These film studies aren’t about picking the winner (although we understand having a good pick record matters to fans), they’re about telling you how the fight likely plays out through film study and boxing knowledge. None of us care who wins.
