he strikes again! best boxing channel on youtube. As much as I'd like this fight to happen i feel like it wouldn't be as close as people may think, considering it being between two of the biggest up and comers/rising stars in boxing. I think Shakur washes Oscar Valdez imo. Looking at the matchup from a stylistic point of view, which you did a really good job pointing out in the video. I just don't see Oscar giving Shakur any real problems, so i got Shakur by UD.

  • @BoxingGems

It’s familiarity and it’s a different set of fundamentals. The advantage comes from the southpaw being used to fighting orthodox fighters. In essence, if a southpaw is fighting a southpaw one of them can still have a southpaw advantage as most southpaws aren’t familiar with fighting southpaws either.

This fight will be Stevenson's most brutal fight of his career. Valdez will test his chin, and just as you said, Ryan, Valdez must punch with Stevenson exclusively on the inside. There is exposure on the inside with Stevenson's lead hand while he works inside Stevenson vs. Caraballo Round2@ 1:33-1:31 left hook lands Round2@:55-52 left hook lands. Valdez will need to be sharp, active with his head movement, moving forward, attack the body with the straight right hand and sweep with the left hook as he is being countered.

Shakur might have the edge but Valdez is not an easy fight for anybody. Shakur is very comfortable occupying the high guard because he does so often it’s a habitual tool in his Arsenal. High jab low cross opens him for Valdez to parry step outside and drop that big cross down the middle. Shakur picks apart an inactive high guard very well but an active high guard is a different story. Got it 60-40 Shakur but this fight will be fought in the corners just as much as in the ring battle of adjustment IMO.

Need some good judges for this fight. Stevenson not finna let you t off on him

What's good homie. Stevenson has one of the most underrated inside games in boxing. He can get a little offensively greedy and depend too much on his reflexes. But when he is defensively responsible and consistently uses his control tactics, it is very difficult to land anything clean on the inside. I agree with all of what you said with one caveat. You mentioned that you don't give either fighter the southpaw advantage but I don't completely agree. In my humble opinion, Stevenson will be able to keep Valdez in front of him if Valdez attempts to move to the weak side with inside pivots and quick range changes. However, Stevenson likes to create counterpunching angles in open stance fights using his rear foot. Because Stevenson is just a master of distance and enjoys a height and reach advantage, as you mentioned, this can create opportunities for Stevenson to counter off the back foot. Slight advantage Stevenson

Yo! Great analysis again sir. To add to it, we don’t know if Valdez still possesses the ability to be that dynamic vs southpaws.

@@BoxingGems Correct. It's been a few years since Valdez has fought a lefty and, as you mentioned, no where near the caliber of Stevenson. Stevenson should assume that Valdez still is that dynamic. I believe Valdez has to take the fight inside and look to land the left hook. If Stevenson consistently applies his control tactics, he will make landing the hook difficult for Valdez. As you mentioned, Valdez has effective traps to setup the hook from the outside and midrange but not as tricky on the inside. Stevenson is just better technically at every range but Valdez can be a dog on the inside

Excellent analysis once again, Shakur has all the advantages. I dnt see Valdez winning. Conceicao I beleive is bigger than Shakur, thought Oscar lost that fight by split decision. The thing that might help Valdez is his ability to with stand the power of Shakur if not it's gonna be unanimous or TKO stoppage.

I don’t know how old you are, but I turn 38 in May this year fam. Back in those days I was throwing hands but I’m well passed that now. Plus, I’m from Chicago. The hands are the backup plan. In the 90’s in the Chi, kids were getting robbed and sometimes killed for Jordan’s and Starter jackets so I feel you. But hands wouldn’t have saved them. Boxing is a great martial art to train but it won’t save you from socioeconomics. Real life 💎

IF theres ANYONE who can perform and stay solid under the HEATWAVE of pressure that Oscar Valdez can bring? its Shakur Stevenson. I see this being a almost Gotti-Mayweather esque bout.. we have the storm of foreward pressure and just straight up HEAT from Oscar Valdez, and the Calculated, cool, collected and SNIPER in Shakur Stevenson. One thing I like about Shakur? every step is accounted for. One thing I like about Valdez? he knows the Southpaws game and he will NOT relax to let you warm up. This will be the true test for Shakur, if Shakur can prove here that he can handle the "heat in the kitchen" that Valdez can bring, THEN we can truly say that Shakur is very special. on the other end, what does an Oscar Valdez win here say? to me it says that Oscar is exactly who we always thought he was, a SOLID champion and it gives his credibility back (to me) after having his name in the dirt for a little. Its an interesting matchup as far as matchmaking because you have Shakur who is the prospect who needs to prove himself, and Oscar the experienced champion who still needs THAT name on his resume. The one thing that I worry for Valdez, is that Shakur has the best EYES in boxing. The reads, the sense of distance, the feints (hands, feet, and head), and the sense of exiting high pressure situations. VERY INTERESTING FIGHT.

Another great video with great insights. Way too many people dismiss the pseudo-kidney shot when discouraging the Philly shell...Valdez better work that kidney ...i dont see him winning this on anything short of a K.O. Valdez is going to have to get nasty..shoulder bumps.smother/hit...if he allows Shakur the balance and footwork...I dont see how Valdez can win
