Part 2: • Math Hoffa: Did Eminem...
--------
Vlad and Math Hoffa discussed a variety of topics in their recent interview, including Dr. Umar Johnson's comments about Eminem. Johnson claimed Eminem can never be a 'GOAT' because he isn't Black. While Math Hoffa disagreed with Johnson's assertion, he also emphasized the difference between lyrical proficiency and the directness of one's message.

The sports analogy is a bad analogy..... we didn't invent the sport....but black athlestism is reason we where allowed to participate. However, from a lyrical perspective....if he was black, he would be just another nigga that could ryhmn....after all he sounds like bigpun and trech!....buts sense I'm not rich and famous I can't debate you on this.

@@darrenreynolds1715 First off, don’t disrespect me. Stick to the argument. My point is simple, the Goat conversation is largely based on subjective reasoning. We can’t conclusively determine a Goat because everyone best rapper criteria is not the same. So you have to use empirical data to be consider into the Goat conversation. Eminem understand that by him being white he’s music would sale to the white majority in America, which would make him more marketable overseas. The same tactics that Elvis,Vanilla Ice and Snow used to be successful. Those two lyrics are a direct contradiction, because if he was black he wouldn’t be considered the Goat in hip hop. Eminem would be in the category with Lupe, Black Thought, AZ, Kool Moe Dee and countless other phenomenal black lyricist.

There's an independent rapper that blew up, does bigger numbers than most industry rappers and became worth over $20 million, at least $5 million is off of youtube and he credits half of that to his haters. The people who claim to hate his music the most watch every single video he puts out, and all the reaction videos, just so they can leave a comment talking shit... even though comments help boost videos. I would put Em in the top 20 but not the top 10, and it has nothing to do with his race. I just think that he is extremely good at what he does but he covers a narrow niche, and he doesn’t have the impact of people who came along and revolutionized rapping like Rakim and KRS One. Heck, I think that LL Cool J is a greater rapper than Em because of LL’s impact, skill, range, etc. I think that Em himself would pay respect to all of these guys as being greater than him.

In my top 5 Eminem most definitely in it. He’s one of the best rapper lyrically. I do believe there is the “anomaly effect” when it comes to Eminem because we never seen a white rapper spit the way he spit. So there’s curiosity about him. He has mad skills and flow. He has such a respect for the art of rap and a student of it. He shows a lot of homage to those before him in his music and does it so cleverly. But all in all he’s a GOAT! 🐐

Never understood the Em goat thing & to me, any legendary black rappers/Hip Hoppers who even says he's top 25 are sellouts unless you strictly mean who he appeals to with nothing to do with sound, relatability, flow & connection to what typically made great rappers great. For example, just speaking of one rap group with many members, is Em better than Mef, Ghost, Gza, Deck, Cappa, Killa Sin, Hell Razah, Fes Taylor, Lord Superb & Wu Syndicate just to name 11?!!? I don't think so! So how he gunna be a goat when you add others like Biggie, Nas, Rakim, KRS1, Slick Rick, Pac, JayZ, Qtip, Busta & Mobb Deep just to name another few?!!? What happens if I add Phaoroh Monch, Ghetto Boyz, Kendrick, Lupe, Griselda artists, Black Thought, 8 & MJG, Mos Def, Trag Khadafi, Chuck D, EPMD, etc??? For best, in regard to what matters, wouldn't that be like 0 & like 32?!!? So then where would Em fit in as a goat???

For example, it's many peoples opinion worldwide that the ancient Egyptians were white & original Jews cannot have been Black. At some point, when does historical accuracy matter more than the opinion of those who decided to hijack cultures?? To me, the whole Em as some goat idea is the foundational building block that will allow it to be said many years from now that hip hop/rap was originated by whites. The major influence Pac owns is (not in any particular order) 1: The tattoos. He wasn't the 1st, but It meant something as a rapper to have tats on the neck and belly nore specifically. 2: backwoods. Pac brought that style from NY they wasn't Rollin those especially hella big until Pac showed em. 3: Glocks. Especially having 2 on you. 4: Hennesey 5: Nose rings. This is another NY style, but notie how many women in their 50s who love Pac who have daughters who wear nose rings today. The daughters wear nose rings too. 6: having a personal medallion jewelry. B4 Pac we had Slick Rick n Kane n others who rocked personal gold. Pac in the rap game made it another thing that became essential to have. His euthanasia chain. And the Death Row Chain. Etc. Now think about all the rappers and groups chains that came after and what it meant up until this very day. 7: The Diss Track, and actually dying from it. Hit em Up was a shift in Diss tracks. Now you had real death and infidelity with your enemies wife's. These were no longer just lyrics they were facts. Pac made that shift. Now look @ how rappers today some of them talk real asf like right on the track with zero filter. And have died from some sort of beef evolving fucking the enemies wife and murder. 8: To sing on a track or do melody. Once again Pac made it mandatory. Ambitions AZ a Ridah, Shorty Wanna be a Thug, Just like daddy, Toss it up, ( he wrote kc n jo Jo's parts. And his vocals are laced on it very low.) Etc. 9: conscious rap songs became a must if you wanted to be considered elite. Brands gotta baby. Dear Mama, Dear Mr President, so many more. That's y you gotta go listen to niggas albums and see if they have range and variety. Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Slim Shady LP, Get Rich .... all showed perfection top to bottom because like Pac the had perfect selection. 10: The most perfect rap album of All Time Makaveli. Was the 1st rap album to use Pro Tools. Yep it became a thing when they did it st. Now look at how dudes have fl studio, and even bandlab...etc. I can go on and on and on about how Pac influenced. Look at how Wayne's library of raps is sooooo deep. Pac started that in Oakland when he was putting down Hella tracks everyday.

I agree with Umar but definitely not for the same reasons 😂 he’s defaulted to saying Em can’t be the goat due to his skin color. Em isn’t the goat because there’s artists before, during, and after him (JID and a couple more) that are much more well rounded rappers than him. Em is relatable, lyrical as FUCK, and extremely marketable. But now you add that with a better stage presence, progressive topics (that are very hard to get people to look at) and social interactions…you get Kendrick and Cole. Those guys are pushing that goat conversation in their directions.

I do think Kendrick is a more sophisticated and mature artist, and his art is much more pure and intellectual than Em's a lot of the time. I think the thing with Em is he doesnt really know much about anything outside of hiphop and his own place in it. He cant do normal club songs cos he never really was a club guy, cant do normal love songs cos hes spent most of his life in a toxic relationship with his baby mama, and he so that leaves him a pretty narrow (but amazingly unique) space. tbh the fact we talk about him means that hesn forever embedded. Theres no on from Ems era that has anything like the popularity that man has maintained. Two unpopular opinions to finish with tho haha. Cole is incredibly overrated to me, not as a lyricist but as rapper/ entertainer. I get bored listening to that man. He just doesnt have that star quality that you see in artists as big as him. His flows and delivery are good but nothing special. Lot of the production is average. He comes across more like a dude who just works really hard and has the rewards to show for it, which he deserves. But I dont think he has any albums that will get much play in 20 years. I think hes carved himself out a good space because of how crazy the last 10 years of rap have been. People like hearing a chill relaxed dude talking about doing his chores and shit :) The other one is Kendrick, Kendrick is the real deal, one of the best lyricists and storytellers in history. Secton 80, GKMC, To Pimp A Butterfly, Damn, even Unmastered.. I only truly fvxk with the first two but I couldnt argue with someone who put any of those others on their classics list. Kendrick impacted the wider world, but hes not actually that influential a rapper. Theres dudes clearly influenced by him, like logic or jid, or Baby Keem. But nothing changed when he came in.. Tupac, Big, Em, Kanye, Lil Wayne, Gucci, Chief Keef, Drake, these guys changed the landscape. In his defence, Kendricks is like Yoda and probably doesnt care at all about this shit. lol

You guys are confusing art & culture with sports ! Only the numbers matter in sports ! Who got the best numbers, who makes the most points . But in art and culture ..it doesn’t matter . Only in the music business is where blk art (points/sales) matters. But in HipHop none of that matters! Eminem is the goat at Sales , but not the goat in the culture .

Respect math for not getting involved in this. I don’t agree with everything Dr. Umar says, but his voice is needed. He says things that people in his position are afraid to say.

😂😂😂😂😂 go for it... I mean literally I would love to witness someone who can tear him up in every aspect, from the battle rapping, to get rich off hip-hop, to get globally huge, and I mean sell out stadiums in a non English speaking country,,, seriously cuz the hood, and the black culture is just starting to sound like gay rainbow culture, 😂😂😂😂 but if you feel that way, kinda like when man start believing they are woman in the inside and even claim to be even bettwr than biological woman, 😂😂😂😂 I'd love to be proven wrong, so don't let me stop u, plz do it

if you understand the history of hiphop and what it means then you might also be offended if certain names are mentioned as all time top 5... there is a difference between sports and elements of a people's culture. it makes no sense to compare/equate the two. there is an akan saying which translates as; the fact that you benefit from the royal household does not necessarily make you a royal.

Yall not looking at this logically. Sports ARE an element of a people's culture. Music, Sports, Fashion, Food etc. is all an element of a culture. Sports and music are 2 different art forms, but both are subjective in several different ways. I respect brotha Umars but his logic and argument falls apart when you look at it objectively.
