I am one of those people that would have done the whole room at once. When I start doing something, I have to finish. Lol, I blame my mother. Lol

Yes! Just thinking about leaving it unfinished stresses me out. There's no way I could've done that in 15 min increments. If I stop once I get started I probably won't get back to it 😊

This is about progress, not perfection, it's not about doing all in one go or nothing at all but about understanding that something is better than nothing. Perfectionism is not a good thing.

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Simply amazing. My life has improved so much ever since putting perfectionism (and the accompanying procrastination) aside to tackle big projects like this in manageable chunks. To the people saying they could never leave the task in the incomplete state after 15 minutes, they don't understand the freedom that comes with your method. My spare room was a mess for so long back when I had that 'all or nothing' mindset. When I finally gave myself permission to start in just 1 corner, I could handle it without experiencing pain or decision fatigue. It probably got finished a lot sooner than if I thought I couldn't do it any other way than all at once. It doesn't necessarily have to be done on separate days either. You can do 2 or more sessions in a day but it's definitely beneficial to take breaks to recharge both mentally and physically. Some people just have such busy lives that carving out 15 minutes in a day is the only option.

It works great, doesn’t it?
I would put a board over the tub if you're not going to use it. Then you could put some shelves above it to store whatever is going in the room. My son has a guest room that had years of stuff cluttering it. He took all the books and put them in the library, boxing up almost a dozen boxes to be donated. Now he's able to finish the room. What can be done when you put your mind to it.

You did a pretty great job! Manageable and no stress. I'm in the process of practicing Swedish Death Cleaning. I think you're too young for that. I encourage you to continue. You seem to still be stuck on "I may do something with this someday." Let it all go. If you need something like it later, buy it. Your tastes will have probably changed. You will be at a different place in your life. Great job!!!

Great video. I like doing anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes maintenance on areas, as I'm pretty organized to begin with. I've been there when you take your items off to be donated, and you're second guessing your decisions, but in the end you know if feels good and a big weight has been lifted.

Yes that is true and I considered it. Sometimes I just need it gone immediately and that is how I was feeling. I actually don’t donate to goodwill. It’s a place our church owns. They donate a LOT of stuff to people in need. And they hire people who may have a hard time getting jobs otherwise.
Good job! Bisous de France 😘

Whenever I have something that is broken in some form, I list it for free on the local classifieds online and there are always people who want those things. That way, it doesn’t just get thrown out if you donate it and they see it’s broken and assume it doesn’t work anymore.

Oh no! I did donate it! Thanks!
I am a suckered for containers, and I would have hung onto those storage bins and clear containers since you're still working on decluttering and organizing. As you rearrange areas, you might like some of them. But they can pile up. Hang up your family photos. They were nice. I would never throw away something that worked except for one part. Donate it, and explain why.
@reallifewithali

I kept most of the containers! I keep current family photos up in our living room already. The ones I decluttered are old. Thanks for watching!
We're in a 2BR apartment near Chicago. I toss, recycle, or give away at least 20 items each day. I do lots of crafts, my husband and daughter are disabled. They have their own stacks of books, tchotchkes, and hobby materials. They hand me items to donate. Tina, Al's wife

The 15 minute rule doesn’t quite work for The Doom Room (as I call mine) because the stuff has to be pulled out to be sorted and then gets in the way until the next time I can declutter.
