    I stay out of the stores nowadays. It’s way too easy to go in and spend a ton on stuff I will never use. I deemed this year the year of necessity and not want. We will see what happens😂

    You can really declutter a lot when you give yourself a short amount of time. You don’t get overwhelmed as you know it’s achievable. For someone like me, who has a chronic illness and little energy I can feel that I’ve accomplished something. During the day I will take on several small spaces and rest in between. I will decide on a drawer or a closet or whatever small jobs I have and I can actually complete them. It takes all the fear of being overwhelmed away.🥰

    I ❤ declutter videos! Great job!! 1. I only shop when I need something - I keep a list and try to thrift first. 2. I have a tiny closet (22" X 20" with an upper & lower bar - no floor space). I keep my closet simple and nothing that isn't serving me. 3. I own 40 clothing items - 19 professional for work, 11, casual, 6 workout & 4 lounge/pj. I have found this to be my "sweet spot".

    No more impulse buying for me. I'm only buying what I need going forward. Since downsizing apartments from almost 2 yrs ago, I no longer can store clothes &/or miscellaneous items. I'm re-starting my stint with what you are showing my closet & other items that no longer serve a purpose. I'm all for donating/throwing &/or giving away. Plus my bldg does a free swap shop so things there too.

    Yes, but you can group things in categories, such as "25 women's tops at $5 each". Thrift store prices. It'll add up quickly with all you've been donating. You can even watch your old videos to jog your memory. Anything to help with taxes!

  • @annw1395

    @annw1395

    You need a receipt from the donation center, but they don't fill it out. It's generally blank, or if they write anything on it, it would be general categories, like children's clothes and housewares. At home, I take a separate sheet of paper (or do it on my computer; make a table) with item, approx year(s) purchased, approx purchase price, thrift store value.... These are general and estimates, as the tax people have no way of knowing exactly what was bought, donated, etc, nor do we need to keep track in detail. I'll just separate the clothes into men's, women's, children's. Same for shoes. Books, toys, appliances. For something mechanical, you need to specify if it's in working condition, or not. Like when you decluttered yiur closet, you could list 24 women's shirts, bought 2020-2023, purchase price $25 ea thrift store price $8 ea, and so forth. No need to list each and every item. If there's something like that pair of shoes that's still brand new, you can list it separately, and with the exact details if you want to. It doesn't take too long, and with the mountains of stuff you're donating, it could be a couple thousand dollars or more in your itemizing. Btw, do you itemize? I have different Excel sheets on my computer that I made up and use every year (zero complicated; basicallyjust table): medical, charitable (incl church donations), general deductions (mortgage interest, vehicle license taxes, prop taxes, etc). I just fill in these spaces as I pay my tithing, prop tax, medical expenses -- ie: thru-out the year. Line upon line.... 😊 Depending on your state and family size, itemizing could benefit you in federal, or state, or both. Your state and situation could vary, but since I just keep track of the expenses as I pay them thru-out the year, it's no big deal. It's so much easier for me to do it on the computer than by hand.

    @@annw1395 Good to know! I know the DI just gives you a receipt to fill out. I’ll grab one next time! My husband does all the taxes, but I could probably learn a thing or two. When you say itemize, are you talking about expenses and donations? I’m pretty clueless! I can budget, but that’s about it. Haha.

    I used to be an impulse buyer but not anymore. If there is something online I wait a few days and if I still want it then I consider buying it. And I live so rural there is literally nowhere but Walmart to make an impulse buy and I have to drive 20 miles to get there so I rarely go. I never buy in the heat of the moment and I have saved so much money. And I never buy on credit. If I don't have the money to pay for it I just don't get it. And that includes cars.

    The money is spent, guilt was when we bought it, not when we donate it without guilt. Keeping things "just in case" will help you end up with too much stuff down the road. If we have to think about something - its a no. We are looking for excuses to keep, not rationally deciding.

  • @reallifewithali

    Yes that is true! Although I feel like for some people, sometimes you have to "ease" yourself into the whole decluttering thing. It is tough!
