Massive Antique Bread Cutter Restoration & Personalization with Ortur Master 3 Laser Engraver

In this restoration video, I will bring back to life an antique bread cutter produced in Germany in 1899 by the Alexanderwerk company. I bought it from an antique website similar to eBay, thinking it would make a significant restoration. This antique kitchen tool is beautiful and massive but beaten up by time. The restoration process was pretty tough because all the parts were very rusty. The bread cutter was also built from many parts that I had to restore individually. Took me one week to achieve this result.
In this restoration video, you will see cast iron repair with Epoxy resin, powder coating, wood restoration and painting, sandblasting, laser engraving on different materials, and laser cutting, in addition to the usual restoration work details.
I love how this antique bread slicer turned out and am happy I could save it from decay.
Now it is perfectly functional and can be used again!

I hope you like this restoration project and share this autumn joy with me.
Cheers, and Thanks for watching !!!

    Why bother? You puttied and painted it. Also, that wood will likely resemble swiss cheese on the inside and be structurally compromised. One would think the only reason to preserve the original wood is for aesthetics but painting it renders that reason a moot point. Why not just replace the wood? Not to be an arm-chair quarterback but wouldn't it have made more sense to impregnate the pieces with an epoxy resin that would strengthen the wood and still allow you to see the grain and the wormy texture? You would also have been able to stain it as you wanted before applying resin.

    Tha was and you always do a great job. I would like to mention a tip that I got of another Man's channel. A bell that needed to be fixed cause the bottom of it on one side was gone. He used solder strips he placed under it. I was thinking THAT WON'T WORK"!! he placed one and melted it. Then another. And a third one. He then sanded it and it was hard and stayed that way. I was really surprized. Your way was also great

I don't agree with the choice of colors.... but you did the a great job nonetheless!...only but I have is that I think it would look a lot better if you replaced the wood instead of painting it as the gray color is not really attractive, or maybe use some other materials to cover the insects holes, and plug the screw-holes with wooden pegs? 🤔 anyway! great job!

    Excellent job at restoring that bread slicer! If I may make a suggestion for your future videos....it's "these" screws, not "this" screws. These means more than one. This means just one. :) Keep up the good work on your restorations. The laser demo was quite interesting, too. Very expensive?

    I'm glad you enjoyed the video J T. Yeah, I'm always making that mistake and few more others. English it is not my mother tongue, so I'm exposed a bit, but I'll try to focus more on that. About the laser, idk what means expensive for you. On the market it is 700$ and without trying to pitch you or smtg like that, in my opinion the price it is well balanced with the machine quality and what can be done with it. You can find more info in the description, as well a 15% or 50$ discount that I obtained from this deal for my viewers that are interested. Thank you for watching!

    Just a thought. You used food safe paint on the wood. Is the powder coat paint also food safe? I know it's a lot tougher than that used on the wood but it can still chip or get scratched.

    Beautiful job. I love your videos. I don't understand though why you always do cold blueing instead of normal way....especially on something that is touching food? I could understand on a big item but all those little screws that the bread is passed over shouldn't have those chemicals on them.

    Did you fill the wood with poison, cover it with food safe paint? On a item to be used with food?

  • @rustyshadesrestoration

    @rustyshadesrestoration

    10 ай бұрын

    After you use poison, you have to let the wood for at least three days outdoors or in a well-ventilated area; then if covered with food-safe paint, you can use it. In my case, this slicer will be used as a decorative piece, the single-use was for my cutting test.

    I'm cleaning it with a gel paint stripper and wearing gloves and a mask, and then I'm contacting the company that deals with this kind of trash for proper disposal. Luckily in my city, there is such a company. Anyway, important, it is to don't create dust while removing the paint, like sandblasting or manual sanding.
