Antique Personal Weighing Scale Restoration

In this restoration video, you will see cast iron welding, powder coating, brass turning, sandblasting, and the usual details of restoration work. This antique bathroom scale was made in Germany in the early 1900s and produced by “Jaraso”.
It was not until the beginning of the Twentieth century that someone thought of a personal household scale on which to weigh oneself, and it was the Germans who apparently first made such a scale. The first manufacturer may have been “Jas Raveno & Son,” who named their scale “Jaraso.”
In 1910, the company registered British Patent No. 23493/1910 (see the two advertisements in the newspaper The Chemist and Druggist, in 1912 and 1922). Subsequently, the scale was patented in other countries, such as the US and Italy, in 1911.
Those balances were used in medical offices, hospitals, and households to meet the increasing demand accompanying the rise of mass consumption society.
Almost totally made in cast iron, the quadrant is calibrated from 0 to 125 kg with a mark for every 500 grams. It has a small mirror suspended on chains to enable the user to read the dial. The quadrant is written in the native tongue.
The restoration process went well, even though the bathroom scale was very rusty. The only issue was with the broken part, but I managed to weld it and learn new things. It was the first time I had to weld a cast iron part.
I hope you like this restoration video and share this autumn joy with me.
Cheers, and Thanks for watching !!!

This scale greatly deserved to be patiently restored: it was designed to survive several wars! It has just regained a new life expectancy of at least another century, bravo! The use of the mirror is something I've never seen before...

Almost 12 days! Wow! I can tell by the time spent that you really did love working on it. You could see day by day, the beauty emerge. Imagine something lasting 100 years! I suppose it resisted the elements and time because of the metal it was made of. It really did turn out beautiful and I was almost in a trance watching you do it! Thank you so much for doing this one and giving us a lovely, yet brief glimpse into the long ago past. You enjoy your Autumn coming on as well. ❤

Muy buen trabajo, cuando vi la pegatina del dial creí al revés que era un video pirateado que se puso invertido para evitar baneos, ni siquiera pensé que el espejo era tan importante, hasta que vi al final que si lo era. Esto es arte.

You always do such beautiful restorations. Has there ever been any you couldn’t. What was your hardest restoration? Love to watch your making magic.🇺🇸

Thank you so much. Yes, the hardest is the newest project. I'm always jumping and choosing challenging things that I never did before, even though this makes me vulnerable a bit, and maybe sometimes things don't go as planned, but I know this is the single way of getting better at what I do. 🙂

When I saw the backwards text, I was wondering what was going on. Then near the end when the mirror came back, I thought oh yeah! That is why the text is backwards!

I watch these restorers repairing parts pre heating parts in a vise. Vises act as a heat sink I'd use a clamp instead of a vise

I hoped you saved that old mirror. Based on how old it is, it's more than likely they used real silver for the backing.

2:54 такие винты лучше откручивать ударной отвёрткой, бита в этом случае поворачивается с усилием, при ударе по отвёртке молотком.
