After a 2 year writing process and a month of recording at one of the most beautiful studios we’ve ever set foot in, we launched our last album IBN EL LEIL and spent the last year touring the world with it, playing for audiences too beautiful to describe.
We repeatedly redesigned our stage set-up, worked with an incredible team of artists to design our stage visuals, and set off on the journey of a lifetime.
Here’s a video for Tayf, a little glimpse of the magic you’ve shown us over the last year, which we’re trying to recount in 4 minutes and 28 seconds.

Showered with this city’s bullets, I chorused with ghosts
Bathed by traffic lights, I danced our dabkeh
Till i was high on the the marrow of the electric pole,
And i poured tears - neon - on swollen pupils.
Till the fezzes came to take us, to prisons, to castrate us, to make medallions.
But we sewed flags from funeral shrouds (from friends on death row).
The mushrooms have started to grow

My life spent; with rights mortgaged off to your sentiments
My history erased from our books like they were yours to claim
Our hips translated Sappho and Abu Nuwas in the tongue of oohs and aahs
On bed sheets embroidered with the same oohs and aahs we chanted at the picket line.

@@Linda_kaa حامد يقصد ان خبز الغراب بينمو وسط الاساخ والجراثيم (يقصد المجتمع والانظمه السياسيه القذره والمتخلفه القمعيه ) وانهم في المستقبل هيورثو الارض ويكون لهم مكانه كبيره في المجتمع الجديد اللي هيبنوه
This band has put learning Arabic on my to-do list, right after completing my doctoral defense in March. While their music is moving and resonant in ways that need no translation, I want to be able to sing along and not have to rely on lyric translations. Since I first heard Mashrou' Leila on NPR, their music has become a source of joy and a comfort in my life. I'm so thankful to have gotten to see them in concert this year! I don't tend to post comments, but I've wanted to relay my appreciation of everything about this band and their music for awhile now.

@@JohnSkybar Fus7a can help a lot with the dialects, I've found. Plus it's easier and widely understood if not widely spoken.

Im a native arabic speaker.. and have a really hard time understanding their lyrics.. its so advanced

This.... this is so much more than a band. So much more than just music. They are so profoundly important. Please.... protect them. Protect Mashrou Leila at all cost. Love from an Arab ally and an LGBT ally in America. “Our hips translated Sappo and Abu Nuwas to the tongue of oohs and ahhs” I mean..... that lyric cane from this mans a SOUL. That lyric came through him directly from God. I fucking FELT that one. This song goes through my *entire* body.

oh goosh i'm cryin' now hhh .. i remembered that night when mashrou3 leila came to Tunisia last summer .. n performed in Hammamet on the 30th of july .. one of the best nights in my life .. please come back again please ..
This is my favorite Mashrou Leila video. It captures their energy, their hard work and joy. I am always impressed with their technical quality on their sound mixes. Perfect balance, nice deep lows, sharp, clear highs, and all the emotion.

@@jayloew9450 Not only dialect but Sinno (the singer) has his own pronunciation. Kind of like how it's really hard for even native English speakers to understand Radiohead or Smashing Pumpkins lyrics. Or Nirvana.

Also, I love that the most powerful line in the song (for me) at the end “to the tongue of oohs and ahhs” in English sounds like “What’s been in our heart”. I’m not sure it was on purpose but it just makes it even more intense. 🙌🏻❤️😘
