Maserati 4200 CambioCorsa TEG S5 E3

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Maserati 4200 CambioCorsa, finished in Argento Luna is a mighty performance car bargain with nearly 400hp, adaptive dampers and a honey of a Limited Slip Differential.
How does a standard CambiaCorsa stand up to a GranSport? With nearly identical HP and performance numbers you might not think there is much to the story. Well, sometimes the smallest things make the biggest differences. Thanks to all who WATCH, LIKE, SUBSCRIBE!

    You nailed it Tim. The 4200 is the last true Maserati ever made. I got one in Manual. Have the Spyder too, a Cambiocorsa - I find it even more beautiful. Like your Channel, like your collection. Way to go. Pls do a update video on the cars that are still there and their condition. The 'problem' with the Cambiocorsa is the cost - Here in Europe they ask from 6 to 8K to replace the clutch, that's what kills the market for it.

    As of now all roads should lead to Gran Sport. They are so cheap! I’ve seen plenty at 17-22k over the last few years. I desperately want one but pile miles on all of my vehicles and live in the mountains. So stuff gets driven hard, and these are pretty rough on suspension pieces. It appears you can’t buy certain bushings, and need whole arms, etc That’s the real kicker to owning one of these for me 😢

    Ferrari 430/360/456/550/612 are even worse. Always some ball joint or link that needs replaced. In 40k mikes mine needs the front drop links and all joints are good but the lower rubbers that protect the ball joints are totally gone. It is a frustration and certainly should be considered. It’s about 3 grand to do the front with an independent but comparable to Audi in terms of price and labor time. Trust me, it’s worth it

    These cars appreciate being driven hard, as the engine has an aversion to sitting. If you've owned a 360 in the past, I'm sure you know. The real kicker definitely would be the cost of consumables. Luckily, there's someone who has designed and produced for the 4200GT/GranSport all new rear control arms that have replaceable ball joints. It's a very expensive investment (around 7,000 USD for the set), but it means in theory that one would never again be required to buy an entire control arm just for the ball joint. It sounds like it would be fun to buy a cheap and well used 4200 and just sort those little things and come out with a somewhat less worrying car for about the cost of a nicer stock example. But from what I am reading, these cars have other quirks that can make them difficult to stomach. I'm not just referring to the clutch. If you've owned a Ferrari in the past, you might understand. Unsuspecting owners won't, though.

    Really thorough and interesting review 👍. I own a 2004 pre-facelift, manual bought for £8k. While it has it's quirks, primarily the gearbox has to be nursed until warmed up and even then it works best with either a 'drive it like a pensioner' or a 'drive it like tou stole it' technique, with no in-between! Watching this video, I must say the paddle shifters really look like you're not as engaged in the driving experience but I agree the manual on the twisty's is hard work Vs paddle

    @@TimsEnthusiastGarage yes, although with mine I'm not sure if it needs adjustment. Gearbox oil was changed recently after 3yrs/say 15-20k miles by previous owner and what came out was black sludge. New oil seels to have helped although still not perfect, really needs a good 20-30 minute warm up before it drives anything like a normal car. Additionally it's the first car I ever owned that needed a gear box fluid change. My primary issues are 2nd is a massive no go when cold (so I just do 1st to 3rd), and it does have a tendency to crash slightly when going down the box from 6th or 5th to 3rd so I find myself avoiding 3rd a lot of the time. But as per previous post, all problems are overcome if you really throw/thrash it into gear

    Great video. I'm considering a Gransport for my own personal daily right now actually -- do you have any thoughts on its suitability for drivers who are automatic only? (Sometimes my wife needs to take the car into work if hers is in the shop) Does it drive like a normal automatic would in that case, and does it wear the clutch that significantly more? (Esp stopped at a red in first gear)

  • @TimsEnthusiastGarage

    @TimsEnthusiastGarage

    First off, thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. Secondly, I cannot express how horrible the “auto” program is. Even driving it in auto for a day or two in traffic will surely wear the clutch as much as 15% just in that short time, no I’m not kidding. Driven like a manual it is reasonable to imagine 80-90k on a clutch. A mate just did 30k on a clutch and reading before and after was around 5% in total life reduction . Amazing . If you drive one of these cars even NOT IN SPORT, you will be aghast at how slow and how much slip is programmed in. I would maybe come up with a strategy to just instruct her on how a clutch works and how to drive it in SPORT and just shift . When you come to a stop it automatically goes down to first if you don’t do so , and there is no wear involved there. Reverse without sport engaged is also fairly ghastly. I could see someone in San Francisco going through a clutch in 6-8 months in AUTO. That same clutch in that same area driven as a manual would have no major wear. I’m not sure if that puts it in perspective. Drive one, drive it in auto and no sport . You will never recommend doing it again . I want to reiterate though , first gear from a red light you cannot stall the car , and it goes back to first automatically even if you are shifting so shouldn’t really be an issue , shifting isn’t really too much of a chore once you think about it

    @@velocelens to clarify further, if you were in sixth in traffic and traffic slowed from 80 down to 15 or 20 , it would automatically drop from 6th to 4th then 3rd or second , whichever was most appropriate and would “put the clutch in” until you got back on the throttle. So it is pretty smart. The auto mode makes it drive like an automatic . Smoothing shifts with slip
