The Maserati Quattroporte Was a Proven Aphrodisiac | Revelations with Jason Cammisa | Ep. 12
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Maserati Quattroporte V was developed while Ferrari owned the company, under the guidance of Enzo The Second, Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo.
It used a Ferrari-built V-8 whose sound was, thanks to a 2008 study, scientifically proven to increase sexual arousal.
This is just the beginning of its appeal - though the Quattroporte wasn't a home-run at first. Thanks to the Ferrari influence, it used a single-clutch automated manual transaxle called "DuoSelect."
Automated manuals were, mercifully, a short-lived fad in sports cars, and in heavy luxury sedans, they worked even less well. Drive a Quattroporte 12,000 miles per year and you're looking at $500 per month just in clutch wear.
Luckily, after FIAT took control of Maserati away from Ferrari, it reengineered a huge portion of the car to fit a conventional 6-speed automatic. And the Automatica then gave the fifth-generation Quattroporte a chance at being the best-driving full-size luxury sports sedan of all time.
Which it became. Especially in Sport GT-S trim.

Glad to see someone dispel that 50/50 weight distribution is 'perfect'. When accelerating you wish a rear weight bias for traction. Upon braking force is moved forward so a rear bias keep the center of rotation more towards the middle for cornering. My Lotus is 38/62. Given F1 cars can bias fore/aft the brakes they are in the 45/55 range to adjust as fuel loads and traction changes.

It gets more praise than you realize. People are just shy. I have aftermarket muffler valves on mine which open up the exhaust even more and dude, it's pretty epic. It pops like gun shots if I let it.

@@Bubbles99718 2010 Grigio Granito (effectively gun metal gray) with black interior and CF driver zone, climate zone and under the door armrests). I got in 2015 for about 1/3 of MSRP. I’ve never looked to sell it but I think they’re going for $30-32K (US dollar/market) on avg. mine is lower mileage (not on purpose, it’s a car and I drive it, just haven’t driven as much with hard winters here)
I bought one of these used with the F1 trans because I had no interest in driving an automatic. It's amazing, and actually it sounds better because you hear those manual shifts instead of the sloppy-sounding automatic ones. The clutch is a problem but not as bad as quoted, since that average lifespan includes tons of drivers who were treating it like automatic and burning through it. ZF is still the way to go if you want a practical car, plus some of the later models (like 09) have better / more reliable parts that I envy.

You're still driving an automatic

@@N1120A Yeah true, I mean, no interest in driving a slushbox. DCT might've been fine but still not the same. I've since then bought a ZF GranTurismo S mainly for my wife to drive, and I still feel the same way about it. Despite being 2-door and having the larger engine, it's not nearly as much fun to drive. It feels more like a Mercedes. Still love driving it, though.
This is the best Petrolhead content on YT these days. Thanks!
A masterpiece of video congrats and thank you so much!
Oh great, another car added to list of things I must buy!
Yep, that sound has me pitching a tent, metaphorically.
After 3 series i subscribed. Well done guys
From 09:30 and after, the comentary is gold. I really love that part man! What a great video!
Having owned one of the later model GTS's, 2016, I can say they do have a very distinct sound that you will recognize any place. The only down side of owning a Maserati is the maintenance. It was common to spend at least $2k-$3k yearly in maintenance for the car. And that was driving it well below the 12k average miles per year. You also have the same interior issues as seen in Ferrari, sticky buttons are still an issue as with the leather dash starting to lift at the edges. If you plan on owning one be sure to budget in your maintenance costs.

My favorite sedan of modern times without doubt. If I would find a bag of cash on the street today, my new daily driver would be a Quattroporte by tomorrow.

Massive depreciation. Probably get 1 for under 20k

@@Bubbles99718 I think the facelifts with the zf auto are a more like 30/35k in good shape. Here in Europe at least. The real money pit is going to be the maintanance though..

@@Bubbles99718 You don't know much about cars do you. The depreciation ended already on the 2009+ models. Which is the one showed.

Please Jason, make an episode on the classic mini. So much history to be told, the first 997cc cooper S engine made by John Cooper from spare parts (which was awful), the high revving 970cc and 1070cc, the rally pedigree, the OHC A series that never was, multiple take overs, the insane ERA Turbo.... So much to be said about this absolute gem of a car, a classless icon that literally changed affordable performance as we know it.
I had the opportunity to daily drive one of these for about a week a few years ago. It was a 2008, so the Torque converted box not the "Duo Select" single clutch auto transaxle. Spectacular car, so classy, beautiful engine sound, and honestly a great drive whether on a moderately windy back road, or where it thrives, on the open highway!!
I do love my Sport GT S. Definitely the best "daddy's car" - as I call it - around!
