I used to live in Frederick County, and I’ve been up Sabillasville Road a few times-that Catoctin Mountain grade is something else, let me tell you! I’m sure this isn’t the first time a train has stalled out going up the mountain and had to make a do-over, and I’m sure it won’t be the last!

AWESOME catch! A lot of Railfans talk about the Maryland Midland. Someday I might Check it out.

It's quite rare to see a train stall out like that, especially with three locomotives. It just plum petered out! It had to roll back, and get another run at the hill! Great catch!

Beautiful track positioning. A picturesque and peaceful place, almost as if a tour excursion train should be coming through. Great camera placement as well and excellent video.

Stalling in the fall happens more often on this line, wet leaves on the tracks often the culprit. Some times they will have to drop the train in Thurmont, run up the mountain sanding the tracks, run back down and grab the train and go back up to interchange

I used to live in Frederick, and I’ve been up that road a few times-it’s a beautiful drive, but in bad weather it’s definitely treacherous! That rail grade is crazy steep-mad props to the engineers who drive these trains up that mountain to Hagerstown and points beyond!

I don't get how a train like this can stall, how steep was the grade? they have 8000 hp with a relatively short train. I imagine one engine wasn't powered on? or they were having malfunctions? And add that several of the cars are empty.
