I remember as a young person back in the 1970s seeing a programme with old age pensioners talking about their youth and saying, "Everything's changed beyond recognition now." I thought, "What do they mean, what's changed?" I saw the programme again recently and understood exactly how they felt. This comes to every generation.

Those days were days for me in the 80's!! How I miss the family and friends that are not longer with me. As Oscar Wilde said, "youth is wasted on the young". How true!!!

the song was performed by many singers: gypsy, russian french, english, american. Even considered to be a "folk" song. But there is a talented man behind this sweet melody. Boris Fomin created this song in 1917th, Sankt-Peterburg, Russia. Words by Konstantin Podrevskiy, were added, or changed to in 1924. Lost love, pain caused by parting, long road through the night..

We were a crew, my two friends and me. From our big friend group to the poing where everyone's gone their separate ways. Today, randomly the three of us decided to hang out again. And everything was as we left it 12 years ago. All of those serious talks, sitting on "our" bench, drinking cheap beers and in the end laughing until tears. Our small city changed, the faces around us were unfamiliar and so was the case in our lives. God, I almost started crying hearing them laugh once again. Nothing in our lives was as simple and nonchalant as it was all those years ago. Reality hit us badly. We've lost friends and loved ones and with every passing day our existence has become more complicated yet. All of us lost the glimmer in our eyes we had. But tonight I saw the glimpse of glimmer even in passing. I'm moving to another country far away soon and so is another one of them. The number of times we can repeat this is numbered. But God, I love you guys. Nothing in the world compares. You created a small infinity with our endless numbered days ❤

rushing by us ! not washing by us ;-) Those Were The Days Lyrics Once upon a time there was a tavern Where we used to raise a glass or two Remember how we laughed away the hours And dreamed of all the great things we would do Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la... Those were the days, oh yes those were the days Then the busy years went rushing by us We lost our starry notions on the way If by chance I'd see you in the tavern We'd smile at one another and we'd say Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la... Those were the days, oh yes those were the days Just tonight I stood before the tavern Nothing seemed the way it used to be In the glass I saw a strange reflection Was that lonely woman really me Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la... Those were the days, oh yes those were the days Through the door there came familiar laughter I saw your face and heard you call my name Oh my friend we're older but no wiser For in our hearts the dreams are still the same Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la... Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

Make no mistake, the music was intended to awaken those feelings in you. It's Russian of origin, and their literature stirs the same pathos. Their history is bittersweet. Your humanity is showing.

In 1968, I was moving to Staten Island from Tennessee. The song made me happy, but it became a sad song for me when I had to leave there seven months later. I have always regretted leaving Staten Island. I used to love those Sundays when would take the ferry over to Manhattan. I would often go to St. Patrick's and light a candle, wish I could do that today.

Its funny how 50 years ago with all the turmoil of that year a song like this came out of left field and became such a big hit. I appreciated it then..and love it even more today. ✌
