André Rieu - "Those Were The Days" ,

Are the audience Italians listening to a 1925 Russian song made immortal in the late 1960s by Mary Hopkins with help from Paul McCartney. The Russian composer was hated by Stalin and punished. Boris Fomin composed the melody and the original Russian lyrics penned by Konstantin Podrevsky.

just to help me to sing😂😂 Once upon a time there was a tavern Where we used to raise a glass or two Remember how we laughed away the hours Think of all the great things we would do? Those were the days, my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way La-la-la-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da Da-da-da-da, la-da-da-da-da Then the busy years went rushing by us We lost our starry notions on the way If by chance I'd see you in the tavern We'd smile at one another and we'd say Those were the days, my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days La-la-la-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da Just tonight I stood before the tavern Nothing seemed the way it used to be In the glass I saw a strange reflection Was that lonely woman really me? Those were the days, my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days La-la-la-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da Through the door, there came familiar laughter I saw your face and heard you call my name Oh, my friend, we're older but no wiser For in our hearts, the dreams are still the same Those were the days, my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days La-la-la-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da La-la-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la-la Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Gene Raskin Those Were the Days lyrics © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, Universal Music Publishing Group, Warner Chappell Music, Inc

@@ruparkyitin "Those Were the Days" was the first song released by Mary Hopkin, on August 30, 1968. The composition is credited to Gene Raskin, who made an English version of the Russian song Дорогой длинною ("Dorogoi dlinnoyu"), written by Boris Fomin (1900-1948) with text by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii. The song deals with reminiscence about youth and romantic idealism. Although the song was popularized in the early 1960s by The Limelighters, Mary Hopkin wrote the best-known recording, which was produced by Paul McCartney and became their first hit single in the UK and second in the US. The song was translated into Spanish (with the title "Que tiempo tan Feliz"), into French (with the title "Le temps des fleurs"), into Italian (with the title "Quelli erano giorni"), into German (with the title "Am jenem Tag") and into Portuguese (with the title "Aqueles Tempos", in the voice of the Jovem Guarda singer Joelma). More than a century and about 70 versions after the release of the Russian song, Russian popstar Vitas re-recorded the song Dorogoi Dlinnoyu (Those Were the Days) in 2010, thus being its definitive version and in a new guise. ("Dorogoi Dlinnoyu" literally means "through the long road".) The song is produced by Sergey Pudovkin and was specially re-recorded also for Vitas' Night Agitated Tour and also for his CD Masterpieces of Three Centuries (WIKIPEDIA)
