He married the daughter of Sir Thoma Fairfax, commander of the Parliament army in the Civil war. He features in John Dryden's poem "Absalom and Achitophel" as Zimri. He himself was a writer one of his works was the comic play "The Rehearsal".

Can I just inform you that a hereditary Knight is not minor royalty, but high gentry. Even the BBC get this wrong. I should jbow because my grandfather and uncle were baronets.
