This is a playthrough using Apocalypse in 1-player Battle mode in the PS1 version of Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. Read on below for more information...
Apocalypse is the penultimate boss of this game. He is an unlockable playable character.
===== Additional Information =====
---- If you complete the game with Apocalypse, you'll get the usual generic hidden character ending.
---- If either player plays as Apocalypse, you will always be locked onto the Apocalypse Now! background.
---- In Battle mode, he does not fight Apocalypse in a mirror match. Instead, his sub-boss on Stage 07 are a random selection of 2 of the game's hidden characters. After that, he takes on Cyber-Akuma on the final Stage 08.
---- When playing as him in Battle / arcade mode, during his intro dialogue with each opponent, it does not play his intro BGM.
---- He does not have the unused Forcefield and Clamp moves in this version of the game. This is obviously because he is made to be a playable character.
---- There is some sort of flaw with MSHvSF Apocalypse where if he begins to perform a move (for example his Mace Thump) and the opponent can stun him during it, he will cancel and repeat that move again. This means that an opponent can keep repeating a combo that stuns him during a move, making Apocalypse repeat the same move over and over again.
---- He does not have a 'get hit' voice when he is stunned. I wonder if this is a flaw?
---- The Japanese version of the game is known as Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter: EX Edition.
===== About Apocalypse =====
Famous Marvel cartoon villain who can change into a giant. Wonders around the world pretending to be a God because he can.
Gameplay-wise, he is a very slow, clunky and static character. All of his moves will leave him in a vulnerable position, which is understandable because he is a giant boss after all. The satellite lasers (which are CPU-controlled) are his best moves as they are unpredictable, and they do save (or delay) him from being completely pummeled. The Eye Beam and The Drill are also excellent moves as well - providing you catch the opponent with it.
===== About PS1 MSH vs. Street Fighter =====
As with X-Men vs. Street Fighter, due to the RAM limitations of the PS1 hardware, huge cuts needed to be made in porting the arcade game to the console... and the main cut is the fact that you cannot switch characters during a fight. Therefore it operates more like a traditional one-on-one fighter, consisting of separate rounds. Tag elements such as the Support move , Counter and the Team Super Combo are still possible though.
Additionally, for MSH vs SF, Capcom has included a mode called Cross Over which actually allows character tag-team switching - with the drawback being that 1P and 2P side's characters will always mirror each other. So for example, if Player 1 chooses Ryu and Spiderman, Player 2 will also have Spiderman and Ryu. By doing this it makes the tag-team switching possible because technically only 2 characters are stored in the PS1's RAM.
Other drawbacks include many animation sprite frame cuts, making some moves look a bit choppy and jerky. If you're used to the Arcade or Saturn versions and have a keen eye for sprites (like myself), you'll definitely notice the cuts.
New features of this version includes the ability to cancel Special Moves into Super Combos, and Super Combos into another Super Combo.
