Technically they did clarify. The text at the bottom of the gameplay during the direct mentions a persistent internet connection is required.

Dissapontied that it’s a cloud version. Even more disappointed that they got me excited by hiding it’s a cloud version.

@@samuelchong6403 I know your comment is months old but assuming you never got an answer the reason it’s bad is because it means it needs wifi in order to play a single player game and if your connection isn’t great it’s going to lag and tell you you have an unstable connection which means a lot of connection issues and performance issues for many switch owners but honestly I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world it’s just disappointing

Let’s say I have a constantly pretty good internet connection at home, would the game being a cloud version still be a problem? 2. Does this mean game progress is saved in the “cloud” and not on our switch? Or rather, does it even save game progress? 3. I’ve seen alot of comments saying it’s impossible to play on the go. If I’m able to use my hotspot from my phone, would I still be able to do so in handheld mode on the go? How does it work? 4. I played Hitman 3 Cloud Version & all my progress was saved. You should be able to play on the go with a hotspot, because I was able to run NBA2K21 Online while at work. If Square Enid does anything remotely close, then a Cloud Version wouldn’t be so bad for GOTG

Let’s think about this for a second. It WAS shady to make it seem like it was actually running on the switch hardware, but is there really any disadvantage to getting this version of the game over the others. I mean that’s assuming the input lag isn’t an issue. While you can’t play this on the go, it would be the same if you bought this on ps4 so… Plus you can play it anywhere in the house. But this is all dependent on your connection. Plus like I said, what’s the input lag?

There's no benefits in cloud gaming,only input delay and high data consumption, means you must always and always connected to the wifi to play this game and it's against switch moto to "play anywhere at anytime" so yeah cloud gaming is bad

As someone who actually is interested in this game I guess I'll just grab it on PS4, I'm still not on board with cloud streaming games just yet since the whole "needs a stable connection to work properly" thing hasn't been working well for me personally (I tried the demo for the cloud version of Control and it was so choppy due to my connection that I have little control over that I just stopped).
