It's completely legal though! My mum had two first cousins who married. (London, UK) way back in the 1950's now. She said everyone knew they'd be together because they were inseparable from childhood. They were only ever "involved" with each other, were happily married for almost 70 years having never experienced another partner. They had one daughter who was perfectly healthy and normal. I think if you love someone, you love them, and no amount of outside opinion or disgust is going to change that. People always have an opinion on this or that, but really, if it's legal, between willingly consenting healthy-minded adults, why should we worry about what people do? If it's not hurting anyone or breaking the law, our opinion is the issue, not their actions! I say that to include myself as well btw! Not to call out anyone personally. We are all guilty of judging others, but I try to keep my opinions in check by balancing out if their action is at fault, or whether my own view on it is what's wrong. I am fully willing to admit that most of the time, it's my thinking that is too narrow or too quick to make a snap assessment. The kinds of relationships that always jar with me, are when, for example, two ladies are friends, and years later one runs off with the other's son! A son who she babysat and bathed as a child. Now again, it's not illegal, no one is being forced against their will, they're not doing anything wrong...but I find that weird AF! Like, did she fancy him all along? 🙄🙄🙄 But although it must be awful to be the mother in that scenario, and have your friend "betray" you as far as it feels to that mother at least, there's not really anything else wrong with it. I find it odd when two adopted siblings marry too! Legally there's no reason they shouldn't, but IMO, there is a LEGAL element to it. Adoption in itself is legally declaring those non-bio parents are now the real parents in the eyes of the law, therefore they should be seen as legal siblings. How do you get raised with a sibling whether blood related or not, and not have that "I feel sick at the thought of it" boundary? 🤔 I can understand it if it was two older foster kids, who cross paths within the same temporary foster family at some point, because they know they're only there for a short term residence, and it is not their "family home" as such, more like a short vacation stay where you meet other teenagers in similar circumstances to yourself. In that scenario, bonding is going to be much different to two children being legally adopted from infancy. Of course this is IMO. We can only each look at these things through our own eyes, affected by our own experiences and morals, some totally legal things seem very wrong, just in your gut it feels wrong. There are other things that aren't illegal and you think, "well it bloody well should be!!!!" You get fathers and daughters falling in love because they meet for the first time when she's a grown woman, and my gut tells me "it's wrong" my head tells me "these two have deep rooted issues that they're trying to heal the wrong way" and my heart says "I can't imagine how confused they must feel, expecting to feel one way and then felt another from out of nowhere!" I think we, humans collectively, are a fascinating bunch! The way we feel and think, the things we agree on or passionately disagree on. The way we think things should be done and try to insist others conform to our ideals. The way we can empathise with and burst into tears over a short video of someone we've never met, yet turn our backs on people we've loved all our lives because they reveal something about themselves we feel is immoral or whatever. The gut instincts we get, subliminally warning us that something or someone is lying, faking, secretive, untrustworthy, dangerous, cruel, or otherwise just not a great catch.... Yet we'll tell ourselves we're just being silly and paranoid and ignore our gut! Then find out later our gut "told us so" right from the off! AND even knowing that we all do that, we can watch someone on a chat show, who ignored similar red flags just like we did, and yet have no sympathy for them! Instead thinking "they deserved to get treated that way for being an idiot blind fool" 😳😕😲 We really are a contrary breed aren't we!? 😂🤣😅

It seems repulsive to the outside world. However, these girls aren't allowed to gyrate with boys. The large majority are virgins in their wedding day. Simply because they're not allowed to be alone with a boy. Even a girl who has kissed a boy can get a reputation as a loose woman in these communities. They like bright colors & spandex. What's wrong with that? They love rhinestone as it signals wealth to them. We on the outside aren't any better really. Girls now dress very scantly & in spandex from Pretty Little Things store, & other fashion sites. I do have issue with her marrying her cousin. If their parents are closely related too. Then birth defects can be an issue from inbreeding. A lot of gypsy communities now have shy away from marrying close family, due to this issue. Heck, the royal families used to do the same thing. In efforts to keep royal bloodline pure & to keep the wealth within. I say live, let be, & offer education.

@@oliviamartini9700 I've just looked that up. There is a study on independent.ie from 2003 that suggests "up to 40%" marry cousins in the Mayo area, and there is a piece from the Irish Times from 2018 suggesting that 70% of Travellers live in overcrowded conditions. Are you getting the two confused? Despite very specific searches, based on the information provided, nothing is coming up to validate your assertion that 70% of the entire Irish Traveller community marry cousins. As for there being "over 100 identified genetic diseases within their community", this is true but misleading. Whilst certain mutations are specific to Travellers, we see this same scenario with pretty much every ethnicity and, where the data is collected, it's not uncommon to see similar numbers of regional traits, too. There is no indication that the number of genetic disorders within the Traveller community is higher than any other community group, nor that it is caused by "inbreeding". That is laid out in peer analyses of the Lynch, Crushell et al article that I am assuming you are referring to (as it was published in Vol. 55 of the Journal of Medical Genetics). Please stop spreading misinformation about a culture, based on limited research and a sensationalist TV show.

@@georgina-a The 40% refers to FIRST cousins. The remaining 30% are second or third. Keep that going over many generations and you wind up with Hapsburgs. The Irish Times piece is from 2003 and is titled, "Study Urges Irish Travelers to Seek Genetic Counseling for Cousins Who Marry"; I have no idea what article you're speaking of and frankly resent putting the work in for a lazy and combative naysayer. If you do a bit more research, you'll see that their genetic diseases have increased from 70 to over 100 in just 20 years. And no, that is not common in the general population. Why don't you ask an Irish doctor to clarify this for you? It seems I've rattled your cage on a personal level, whereas I don't really give a toss outside of a mild interest in consanguinity. Just be sure to seek genetic counseling when you and your cousin-husband decide to spawn.

Your projection is somewhat amusing, referring to me as "a lazy and combative naysayer" for daring to call you out for lazily misquoting data and making combative comments about a culture and people you are clearly ignorant about. Did somebody hurt you? I'm a Traveller and idiots like you, spouting utter nonsense and bigotry, fuel unnecessary hatred that has real-life consequences. I've asked you nicely to stop.
