Red Rider Not the popularity, but the impact it makes in cinema history. Weaver's performance in Aliens paved the way for the non-stereotype of female action heroes and is the reason why Charlie's Angles movie franchise, The Hunger Games and Kill Bill show women as stronger people instead of them mixing up fighting and typical female fun things. That's the reason why I said Weaver's performance in Aliens is more memorable and iconic. But I've seen both films and I still think they should of both win together.

Marlee Matlin revealed years later in her memoir that she suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of William Hurt for the 2 years they were in a relationship, including sexual assault and a violent rape. “On what ought to have been one of the happiest nights of her life, Matlin recalls sitting next to Hurt in their limo with the Academy Award statuette by her side, only to be berated by the actor. According to Matlin, Hurt, who had been dreading the possibility of Matlin winning the prestigious award, turned to her and asked, “What makes you think you deserve it?” He continued, “There are hundreds of actors who have worked for years for the recognition you just got handed to you. Think about that.” In one particularly horrific passage, Matlin remembers an incident that took place while Hurt was filming Broadcast News (he would later be nominated for an Academy Award for his performance). Hurt “finally came home around 4:30 A.M. drunk and woke me up,” Matlin writes. “The next thing I knew he’d pulled me out of the bed, screaming at me, shaking me. I was scared, I was sobbing. Then he threw me on the bed, started ripping off his clothes and mine. I was crying. ‘No, no, no. Please Bill, no.’ The next thing I remember is Bill ramming himself inside me as I sobbed.”

He was jealous success came so quickly to her while it took him longer to win his Oscar. What a douche. It was clearly a role of a lifetime, she was meant for it, and age IS just a number. I feel certain she would have won an Oscar eventually, if not for this role. Yes, she’s deaf, which limits her options, but she can lip read perfectly, and her enunciation isn’t bad. As gifted as she is, another role would have come along which resulted in an Oscar. She’s had quite a bit of success in the entertainment world which just shows how determined and ambitious she is. Bravo, Marlee! You are an inspiration to us all.
