Hard to believe she was the sane age as her oldest daughter, Sara Rose is today 30 years ago -- 21- and she looks soooooo different now! I really honestly prefer her sandy blond straight hair (how she looks currently) just because I'm more used to seeing her like that :-) ...But she's wonderful!

Love that she won but I wish Sigourney had won at least one of the two major awards. It was a superb performance. I guess people just didn't, and to a degree still don't, appreciate roles in sci-fi films. It has been changing with films like Gravity, etc, but nowhere near what it should be.

Not too many people remember Children of a Lesser God as an iconic film anymore. And Marlee Matlin's performance, while admirable, is far from an acting masterclass. BUT to this day, 37 years later, Sigourney Weaver's performance in ALIENS is the one that still stand tall in the pantheon of cinema. Thousands of action films later, hers is still the best action hero EVER in the history of cinema, both male and female. No one else even comes close. Which goes to show that special fx technology and innovation might have elevated leaps and bounds in the last 37 years, but nothing can triumph the humanity of an enduring classic multi-dimensional acting masterclass so tortured, so haunting, so powerful, the essence of a mother, a woman, a warrior, a victim all rolled into one glorious performance. Sigourney's performance is and was ahead of its time, sad that the Globes and the Oscars were not.

Hi Rae, actually the term “deaf-mute” is not a nice word. Please use deaf or hard of hearing. Sometimes you will see people write it as Deaf. That is a person who is part of the Deaf Community - they are culturally deaf. They cherish their language and each other just as they are. Their culture is handed down to each other, sometimes late in life, because 90% have hearing parents. They are most likely to attend mainstream schools where they are cut off from other deaf kids, instead of going to the Deaf school where they can communicate directly and freely without barriers. Also, hearing parents rarely learn sign language. If a person becomes deaf later in life, they are less likely to learn sign or hang out with other deaf people. This group tends to use deaf or hard of hearing, because they focus on the medical view. Sometimes you will see other words too, generally that focuses on what is “broken” - a Deaf person will tell you they are not broken and they are fine the way they are. I hope this helps.
