That is total crap, Freestyle 50. She and Glenn are friends but she and Cher are friends as well. She was celebrating her friend. She was supposed to make an ass of herself because someone LOST? Meryl was just as deserving for Iron Weed. Glenn's characterization was ridiculously over the top (which was fine because it worked well for the part). Cher did a good job in Moonstruck. All of them were deserving.

Glenn has never really cared if she won or not. In fact she was even more surprised to be nominated for the award and is currently the first woman getting the most nominations without a win, I'd be proud of that record. Tho at least give her a honorary oscar someday for a stunning career!

I know she really wanted to get the Oscar because she probably figured it might be her only chance and as it turned out, it was. She never did get another movie role as good as the one she had in Anna and that is kind of sad.

Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction had the most riveting and thought-provoking performance that year, in my humble opinion. She was so good as Alex Forrest I think she scared off the Academy members.

Cher was my very first celebrity crush when I was just 4 years old and saw her on The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour. Mom watched the show regularly, and after noticing Cher, I would pester my parents asking them when the show was coming on TV again. Loved their music as well.

Cher was great and she deserved it. She deserves the credit. But Glenn Close just had an even better performance in my opinion. Glenn NEVER won an Oscar. It's a fucking crime. She truly is one of the best actresses ever!

Cher deserved the Oscar, Moonstruck is an incredible movie and she was magnificent in it and so was Nicholas Cage

I’m a big fan of Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, and Holly Hunter….but I have to say that Cher was pretty extraordinary in this movie. Of course Meryl and Holly have won Oscars, but it’s criminal that Glenn has never won, especially for Albert Nobbs (I didn’t think too highly of Fatal Attraction; revolting story, and Glenn was over the top).

Love Cher! She was fantastic in Moonstruck! Very deserving! Meryl and Cher are still great friends!

Paul Newman should have won an Oscar for being soooo good looking! That was when Cher was going with the bagel boy!

the way Cher acknowledges the lady who taught her accent for the movie, her peer actresses and her bond with Meryl Streep from 82's Silkwood goes to show this woman has always been a feminist.

I luv Cher. Glenn Close should've won this Oscar. And Cher should've won best Actress for her role in "Mask" playing Rusty Dennis she was phenomenal.

I love Cher and I love her in Moonstruck. But if Glen Close wasn't a guaranteed win that year I don't know what was. It's unbelievable but I think the feel-good aspect of Moonstruck was a deciding factor even though Close's performance was unquestioned. I've always loved Cher's acting chops, as most comedians really do rise to task of serious Oscar worthy performances. In a perfect world the 1987 Best Female Actor should've been a tie.

It’s a cinephiles dream to attend the Oscars. But for me it’s thrilling but also intimidating to be in a room not just with these people. But also these either longtime icons or trending with the internet celebs.

Cher always said that the mid 1980s was the happiest time of her life: Hit records, hit movies, the Oscar, and a boyfriend she was absolutely crazy about (the "Bagel Boy"...seen @3:25).

I think Cher deserves the Oscar. People often belittle the performance of actors in comedies.

Moonstruck is like my ultimate guilty pleasure movie. It always makes me think and cry and laugh and get in my feels. LOVE IT! She was so believable as an Italian New Yorker. Oscar well deserved.😁😁😁😁😁

+SethBlizzard Although I thought Cher was splendid in Moonstruck, I would have given the Oscar to Glenn Close (who still does not have one!). I somehow think that Cher's Oscar was not only for Moonstruck, but for Silkwood and Mask as well.

As much as I love Cher and she was great in Moonstruck, but I think Glen deserved this one. I was genuinely frightened when I watched Fatal Attraction and then when she became Cruela Devil she was even more brilliant.

Cher was the crowd favorite as they exploded into cheers and applause when the gorgeous and elegant Paul Newman announced her as the winner. This “at home” movie lover was also thrilled to see her win. She was also excellent in “Silkwood,” the movie referenced in her acceptance speech in which she acted with Meryl Streep and Kurt Russell. That film should also be on every movie lover’s must watch list. I’m glad Oscar said “Take Me Home,” Cher. 🎶🎬❤️🎬🎶

I agree. I just saw Fatal Attraction last weekend and she deserved to win over Cher. Cher was good, but it wasn't an Oscar worthy performance.

And this was the beginning of the Glenn Close horror which continued in 2019.

I loved Moonstruck and Cher. She did a really great job along with the cast. She is beautiful then and today. Well-deserved Oscar.

Cher and Meryl!! The love is REAL. I adore them both, even if Cher is like within my soul.

my fav part was Meryls' reaction! always love her as she never seems full of herself no matter how famous she is or how many awards she's won or been nominated for!

Apparently this standing ovation, (which never happens at the Oscars anymore), acknowledges Cher's amazing talent. She completely deserved this prestigious award!

So you're saying that Cher is more talented and skilled than Meryl Streep, for example. Just when Meryl Streep won her third Oscar she received a standing ovation... and Cher won just one (even unfair) and she gets that ovation... 😂😂😂😂.

I've always thought Cher should of got some recognition for playing Rocky Dennis Mum in "Mask." I think Glenn Close should of won here. I watched "Moonstruck" for the first time last year and though Cher is an amazing actress, Glenn should of won this Oscar.

She is so real to her soul. It is always so fun to watch her achieve a lifelong goal, and to be truly grateful.

I really love how Meryl jumps out of her seat and shows so much love for her 💕

+9th Marquess Sometimes in life all the stars are lined up in your favor. Like a basketball team gets gets a missing piece to win a championship. I have loved CHER since 11 over 35 years now. Also the reaction from the crowd makes me kinda tear up. She has always been and under dog. Singing acting TV whatever. So Its nice to see people except you and a few be happy for some one. This Is a stupid ass conversation anyway. Its not CHER"s fault Glenn Close does not have and Oscar. MOVE ON!!!!

What an incredible artist Cher is. Amazing, really. She’s done it all.

Stunning and humble. Cher is an amazing actress. She was, is and continues to be the complete package. If only the ageist sexist media and the Western World would just STOP demonizing Woman of a certain age, who challenge the stereotype or myth of if your a woman there is a way to "age gracefully" meaning that you must start looking like a grandmother. It's such a double standard. The BS that in order to be a "beautiful" woman you have to be under 20 and anyone who continues to be "sexy" over 30 is ridiculed and harrassed as if they are doing something wrong by just being true to them selves. Your damned if you do and damned if you don't. When Cher was in her 60s it started and now sadly, pathetically the focus of abuse is on Madonna. Leave these ICONS alone. BUT I do wonder what happened to her hunky boyfriend at the time? Love You Cher. XXX

Virtually all women 'of a certain age' look like grandmothers. Just like all men the same age resemble grandpas. It's just the nature of life itself, it's not inherently good or bad.

Damn Meryl is BEAUTIFUL

The reason Cher has had such a long career is because she's a sweet, talented person. CHER GOLD : )

There`s no one more genuine and authentic celebrity than Cher. Never has been, never will be.

Cher should have gotten a nomination and win for Mask! Glenn Close should have gotten this, her performance was terrifying and sad at the same time! Despite the changing of the ending her performance is still amazing to this day!

No one deserved this more than Cher! For once the Academy gets it right. And Meryl Streep was on her feet showing her support for it.

At 0:56, Meryl looks gorgeous in the audience, the best she's looked! Cher has a worried look on her face bc she knows she's up against four outstanding performances (I saw them all). Actually anyone who saw Sally Kirkland in "Anna" will remember her performance, but not enough people saw that movie.

Well deserved!!!! She's a cut above a lot of actors. Where are all her movie roles? What a shame we didn't have more to watch continuously.

Cher is great but the Oscar should have went to Glenn Close for Fatal Attraction. She blew me away with that performance, and she deserved the Oscar more.

Cher deserved this Oscar. But so did Glenn Close. But she knew she didn't stand a chance of winning that year. The media hyped up this win that entire season. But Glenn Close's performance that year was unforgettable and still is.

I have never seen this and I got to say that very few people can stand there and actually give a meaningful speech by taking a pause few times, not apologising, not fluffing and gasping all over the place but taking the moment in and with humility acknowledge that you are actually good and deserving this yet thankful.
