We weld in new steel c channel and stake pockets. We also get new light kit installed.

I like the idea of a central beam running all the way from the hitch/coupling to the rear tie bar/crossmember. A single length of RHS (rectangular hollow section) is the most convenient and if it has a 50mm ID (internal dimension), it could also function as a hitch receiver for a bike rack or recovery point. It is an easy retrofit that gives a little bit of extra strength to a DIY repaired trailer, while adding only a little bit of extra weight. It also provides a much safer cable run for the electrics, and the hitch receiver at the end provides a central tie-down/recovery point if something bad happens to your trailer.

Thanks so much! I agree on the wiring however there was no way the wires would make it through the hole how they exited the housing. Thanks for the support!

I’m conflicted, I generally sway blue but if red would match your car; red might be better. Plus I feel like red has the momentum and I want to be on the winning side so… Red

I get alot of good reclaim metal from the junkyard just a little Pro tip .I save a lot of money doing it like that on material. An i know this is your frist time doing something like this. But on a lot of frames that I do. I Z notche them in. Meaning cut it out like a z then make your new piece to match that. In that way you get more surface area to weld in.

Check your State regulations for side marker and overall reflector placement. Run wiring inside a conduit to avoid blowing in the wind and rubbing through the insulation. Clear tubing works well for this if you seal the ends with silicone caulk Also ice builds up on the wiring not in a protective conduit and pulls down on the wiring. Install lighting as last step after painting frame. Too many folks fail to secure trailer wiring and protect it from the elements. Hooking up to a trailer and finding non bulb related light issues and tracking down wiring shorts in the rain or snow is not something to look forward to. Manufacturers cheap out on the trailer electrics to save on production costs. They leave the consumer with wiring headaches down the road. Take your time and do it right. You are the warrantee on your DIY projects.

Welds look a little cold on those pockets. Probably no big deal since they're only holding on your walls, and if they're loading that much you'll have a bad day anyway 😅

Yeah no kidding. If the pockets break lose it would be after the rest of the trailer. 😄 thanks for posting.

Hobart handler 125. I have it setup for gas but only use the flux core. Prep is key to success. Also patience is your friend. Good luck. 👍
