Field Songs is a really cool album. Mark Lanegan fans can appreciate the diversity of his anthology. Each album of his has its own unique and different feel to it. I think that's because he has collaborated with so many different musicians over the years.

Of course. But hell, he gave us a Lot even while battling his demons. Like, Lanegan's entire recorded portfolio is impressively huge by any musician's standard. There are musicians who've been around twice as long as he was and who hardly put anything out. Lanegan lived for it. It's always sad when someone battles the disease of addiction and mental illness, but he was such a beautiful man nonetheless. He gave us more than we could have ever asked for and I think we should all be nothing less than incredibly thankful that we got to live amongst his voice.

i think it's likely he wouldn't have had nearly as much drive to write interesting music had he not battled with these things. an awful lot of my favourite art, be it happy or sad in tone, is created by people who have suffered in some way in their lives. id go as far as to say the sobered up, rich and famous versions of a lot of bands tend to produce less compelling music. Imagine a mark lanegan who never had a reason to write one one way street.
