I think what was so admirable, clever and crafted about Tom Hardy's portrayal of Ronnie, is the way he came up with a voice that sounds absolutely nothing at all like Ron's real life voice!

The strange mix of slapstick comedy , violence and drama worked for me ... but only because of the amazing Mr Hardy . I honestly forgot it was the same dude playing both brothers .

As much as I enjoy listening to Kermode's lengthy analysis, I can sum up Legend in a single sentence. Tom Hardy gives an excellent performance in an otherwise average film.

@@sprinkdesign7170 Yeah, I’m pretty boring. Good job really otherwise they might have made a movie about me and then Mark Kermode would have to review it, forcing me to leave another boring comment for you to get upset over. Thankfully we’ve been spared that worst of timelines 👍🏻

dal20 I agree. He saved that film. Although the film has its moments, which usually are comedic in some sense, the rest is pretty forgettable. It’s rewatchable but not as a film you should focus on and analyse, the epitome of a “switch it on and leave it on in the background” type of film.

I hated the film through and through it reminded me of Gangster Squad, in that they were both films I wanted to be taken seriously and weren't simply because the writer and director favoured a flashy "ooh these guys are hard" film over a character study of people who are genuinely interesting.

A solid performance from the cast! Very impressed with Tom Hardy in particular! However not sure about this film in context with the Krays? It is a very unconventional take on their story, based more on the mythology of what went on during their crime regime in the 60s.... If you want something a bit grittier, would definately check out "The Krays" starring the Kemp brothers.' I enjoyed the humorous element, could have done without the nauseating narration going on as Kermode said, as it did cheapen it in parts... But overall a fairly entertaining and original take on their story...

I thought the performances by tom hardy were worth the price of admission alone, having said that, the story was kind of bland and lost momentum about half way through and the end kind of fizzled out. Yes it was over the top, but I was thoroughly entertained and was laughing through most of the movie, just wanted more from the story. 3.6 / 5

Terrible film. It's not interested in the Krays. It's not interested in their connection to the Mafia. It's not interested in London in the 1960s. Its not interested in the police attempting to take them down. It's a dung melodrama about a love affair that we've all seen before, and it wastes a fantastic cast. My verdict: dung.

there are two scenes which i thought seemed to be recreations of scenes from other movies. one was the scene when the main character took his girlfriend on a date into a bar he owned and felt almost too similar to the famous one shot scene in goodfellas, the other scene (or to better correct myself: location) was the bar itself which looked almost exactly like the bar in ganster no.1 when freddie mays and the gangster meet freddies soon to be girlfriend/wife. it wasn't a problem, great movie, just sayin.... so back off..... square-go like

I thought this film was GREAT! even up their with the likes of Goodfellas. There bit of comedy in it but I disagree with Mark about it being superficial it starts of that way so understand why the newspapers were mad about them but towards the end you do see them as the monsters they were and I don't believe it romanced them at all.

I'm on the whole positive about Hardy but I saw the trailer for this and felt like I was watching a bad impersonation show. Someone should have told him to pull his performance down by about 90% to make it authentic. Embarrassing. Kermode is right about it being a comic performance. A better actor would have been able to do something nuanced. It's a shame.
