    As a 17 year member of Patriot Guard Riders, I love this story. We've done this a few times. I was involved with the repatriation of Private Jewitt Williams, a Civil War veteran of the 30th Maine. His ashes were found on a shelf in Salem, OR. He was carried across the country to Maine on PGR motorcycles to be laid to rest with his family. The only objection I have to this video is in the beginning when the narrator says "biker gang". Patriot Guard Riders is far from a "gang". We are patriots of all creeds, colors and political persuasions honoring those who served our nation.

    Sir Thank you for your dedication to our fallen brothers and sisters. In 2006, the Patriot Gaurd were called apon for my cousins funeral. Sgt.Rickey E. Jones of Kokomo, Indiana. The Patriot Guard set up a 300 meter perimeter for his funeral, cause there was threats from a church in Missouri that was threatening to disrupt his Funeral. This evoked then President Bush to enact the Rickeys Law that prohibited any protesting within 300 meters of a military funeral. That church actually threatened to dig up his grave to desecrate his remains. All that was in his casket was his uniform and some family momentous from us family members for his journey to Valhalla. If it wasn't for the Patriot Guard, there wouldn't been no security for my family at Ricky's funeral. So I thank everyone of yall who was involved in that momentous occasion. God Bless everyone of yall and May God put the wind to your backs and give everyone one of yall safe travels Please never forget Sgt. Rickey E. Jones KIA- 22/02/2006 C. Company 1/327 Inf. The military did not handle his funeral arrangements. Jonathan did not die while serving in the military, he was a veteran and civilian at the time of his death. His family would only have received $2000 towards the cost of his burial or cremation. If they chose to inter his remains in a National Cemetery, the military would provide a coffin or urn, a grave site and a tombstone or marker, and only a portion of the transportation costs to that cemetery. His remains would have been handled by a civilian mortuary and the details worked out and decisions made by his family. He lived in CA, his family lived in GA, and unless they were able to pick up the cremains, they would be shipped.

    Upon my fathers death and burial, my fathers burial was at a National Cemetery in his home state. He, being a Veteran of WWII and Korea, His service included the Military Flag Ceremony. However my brother, his eldest son, could not attend due to health issues and he, being a retired Service member, was to receive the flag and other items associated with the Military Honors. Being halfway across the US at the time, the Patriot Guard Riders took it upon themselves to deliver the flag and package to my brothers home, in person. As described here, a relay was set up at each state border to make the delivery possible. These men and women are STILL serving their country and community as well as their brothers in arms. This group has and will honor each other and the Brotherhood of Military families. I salute each and every one of them.

    I read somewhere that only about 1% of the population entered the U.S. military and of those about 10% retired. That makes all of us veterans members of an exclusive club and we need to like after our own.

  • @xheralt

    @xheralt

    A significant percentage of those bikers WERE veterans, and taking care of "their own" was precisely what was going on here. Though I do agree the premise of the story seems sketchy, I don't think the US would simply mail cremains. At the very least, a single uniformed member of the USMC funeral detail would hand-deliver the urn to her doorstep. Clickbait-y title, that an organization -- the Patriot Riders -- founded to do just this sort of thing actually doing the thing is somehow "unthinkable".

    As veterans, we have to look after each other, because nobody else will. We’re just numbers to the VA. All the VA cares about, is how to medicate and isolate. My wife has numerous bottles of different medications that the VA doctors have prescribed to her. I could fill numerous boxes with them.
