In my opinion she was like this before because she was married to Tommy Matola and he built her image as a modest arounr-the-way girl with long dresses etc. She said she felt imprisoned in his mansion because he was too possessive so when she divorced him she totally went off the rails and did the opposite extreme.

She does not need to whistle to prove the uniqueness of her voice. What a precision, tone and timbre. Divine!!!!!

You should be using past tense to describe the wonder of her voice. It was here for a time, and we enjoyed it, but now it's gone. That's life! Everything has an expiry date. Is there a singer now who has taken over her mantle? This performance was posted the year after Whitney left us.

Walter Afanasieff wrote everything else including the chords for the chorus, added drums, other production. etc. He also came up with the guitar sound. Walter also helped her write Hero, One Sweet Day, All I Want for Christmas, and many other of her hits until Mariah Carey got a divorce from Tommy Mottola. Her other famous hit, "Butterfly," was written entirely by Walter and Dan Shea except for lyrics.

Those of us that sing know that it is difficult to sing early in the morning. I think she did a great job. I love listening to Mariah even when her voice is tired because it is natural. I rather listen to her mess up than the back up recording.

The truth is, singing in the morning is more difficult, at least I have to talk first and then warm up, after that it's much easier for me.

It's clear that her throat is hurting so bad in this perfomance, her face says it all AND EVEN LIKE THIS she made sure to snatch every fucking second of this song LEGENDARY

This was hours after she attended the Fresh Air Fund 1997. Lack of enough rest affected her performance but still turned out great.

That forced half smile at 3:49 and then when her face when Rosie said that was beautiful you can tell she was unhappy with her vocal performance here, even though it was still absolutely killer.

the last "I'd risk my life.." was so breathtaking. Good Lord.

Her voice and beauty was so natural. Love this era!

She had a fundraising concert the night before, that's why her voice is affected. Still, this is just about 99% better than everybody else. Her voice is raspy, but you can still hear her range and command of her upper and lower registers. Her low notes are absolutely enchanting !

Its amazing for me to see her mic going far from her mouth but the volume of sound she produces is still the same.

Burigadang Padam Sakdang Bulawan it's the other way around. The volume of sound she produces changes significantly as she moved between registers, so she changes the distance between her mouth and the mic to keep the volume seeming roughly similar.
