TEOM era, especially in 2006, had a lot of tired vocals, you can easily identify watching the Adventures of Mimi with the songs: Vision of Love, My All, those belts sounded like sick a little bit, but the whistle, she killed them! ♥️

Pretty sure it was released in May.

While Butterfly era is one of my favorite eras because i really love her soulful and sexy tone, i should admit that TEOM 2005 mid belts were stronger and more consistent. 2005 as a whole was a really good year for her voice. But she "ruined" it in 2006 with TAOM Tour. That tour (along with Rainbow and All The Hits Tour, which are totally unrelated to the video, but i just want to mention them) should've never existed.

I agree that TAOM Tour sucked with her voice and got a lot of tired vocals, but in my opinion, the Rainbow Tour was very good, she gave looks, good changes in her runs and riffs that allowed she to sing the songs, she was very smart because she adapted the songs to her voice btw. 🌈✨

Butterfly album is my favorite album of all time, but I think the tour itself shouldve never be existed. She was super tired phisically and mentally in that era. And (maybe) because the raspiness and lipping in that tour made public assumption about her voice

They sounded a little bit identical, but the Butterfly one is very husky and raspy as Mariah’s vocals on that time. The TEOM one you can see her hand “controlling” her runs, she hits the same note and in the same time that her hand makes a movement. ✨

People like to act as if the Butterfly era was the "downfall" of Mariah vocally and I've always felt that was a load of crap. Her voice did change, but her ability to do everything was still there. Mind you, her voice was still healthy enough to support her upper belts. Not the greatest era of her voice, but certainly better than TEOM era. TEOM era had really standout moments, but only because she brought back her confidence to the stage. Her voice in 2005, compared to the Charmbracelet era, was truly on the decline and not very consistent.

People expected the excellence that she had in Daydream.

Her technique changed a lot. She sounds more natural in butterfly era and more technical in TEOM

Technically speaking Butterfly was superio in every way. However, there are some aspects of the teom era that allowed her more soulful sultry sound to come throug much more, and she was much more confident of a person in teom which really showed through her stage presence. It’s not all about vocals.

butterfly supported f#5’s teom supported consistently until c#5 and some notes until E5 but her upper belts were never supported

They took the same effort. I just believe Teom was less consistent and connected overall vocally because of her confidence and tired voice.

I love butterfly but teom really dose beat it in a vocal battle I don’t really like the tone but that’s me but the confidence and consistency dose it let’s not bash either album there both amazing 🤩

It's complicated with these eras. Technically 1997-1998 had better vocals since her decline was just starting. However, she was still singing like she had in 1995-1996 and was adjusting, which made her vocal change very apparent. With 2005-2006, her voice was in better condition for most of 2005 than the butterfly era, but her singing style was more accommodated to her voice then. She didn't have the same confidence she had in the 90's, so she held back in some ways. I would say both are great overall. Butterfly takes the edge.

Is F5 from "So Alive" really an F5? On my piano application and tuner, that's an E5 and can not be called a F5.
