For those of us that heard all 3 at their diva best. I think Celine's voice at her very peak was incomparable. She basically sounded unreal. However, I think Mariah's technique is the most difficult. That, IMO is why people rarely do a celine or a Mariah song at auditions. Most times you are graded for attempting. But I've seen a few Whitney covers really do justice to her songs. Not so with Celine or even rarer with Mariah.

Actually, her range improved and might still be improving. Back when she recorded All By Myself, her F5 (though insanely powerful) sounded like she has reached her limit. Now she can even mix a C6.

I can't with Mariah's tone. If I have that tone of hers that is so velvety, I would rather not stop singing inside my house.

Nobody could stay the same forever, Céline has still an impressive voice but way less powerful than before (that’s normal lol) and the in the last years of Whitney’s life she couldn’t sustain a single note more than 1 second because she was totally damaged. Let’s appreciate the living legends we have now.

I'm no vocalist, but I feel more emotionally moved when Whitney Houston sings.

Whiney Houston to me the best of all time. I get goosebumps everytime Whitney sing. She would touch my soul. All great singers but, Whitney Houston was vocal n spirituals I felt her songs.

love all three talented ladies, but overall I prefer Mariah. there is just something so enchanting in the way she utilizes her instrument, either in the studio or in a live setting. the way she does phrased belts, whistles, agile runs and not to mention that youthful and soothing tone.

Whitney Houston is perfection, is power ❤ Then Celine and Mariah, but the 3 of them are really extraordinary.

Whitney's voice moved me the most.

Celine doesn't "rely" on nasal twang. It's because she's a francophone. When you grow up speaking French, your voice automatically becomes nasal because there are so many nasal sounds in French Only someone who has grown up that way or is fluent will understand that. I think if Celine grew up in a different household, her nasal twang would be less apparent.

WH is my favorite. Extremely versatile voice, amazing storytelling ability, and unmatched stage presence and live performances. Vocal embellishments aside, I think she has the more naturally beautiful sounding voice/tone.

Mariah’s voice has hit me hard emotionally since I was 5, but all of these women are absolutely gifted.

Mariah is getting old, she can't hit the high notes anymore... she's almost 60 now. She lost her touch. and lost the sound of her whistle. Mariah in this year, is an old woman. She couldn't sing well, like She did when She was young. her vocals are irregular, her voice sounds heavy. we don't want to hear it anymore. and She often lipsync in last 7-8 years.

These 3 are equally amazing. Celine clarity and high notes, sustained, Whitney power and emotion, Mariah very unique, angelic but songs are vocal suicide requires insane agility.

Celine‘s voice is so cristal clear and resonant… the placement, so open and bright holy lord her way of belting is the most satisfying thing i‘ve ever heard

It's a Whitney and Aretha world and then just the "others". While I like Mariah and Celine, what they can't bring to the stage is Whitney's gospel roots. my favorite is Mariah. I think that her biggest problem was consistency. She lack´s consistency because her nodules and because her type of voice is very fragile. Overall, I think she´s the best, agility on point, great lows, beautiful mix and very dinamic with the whistle. Without her nodules probably her stamina could have been better, but could have lost her whistle. By the way, i just love Whitney´s voice and how she performs, Celine isn´t my taste, very nasal for me but she´s great too.

I like Whitney´s mid belts up to Eb5, to chesty for my taste and is very noticeable in the upper area cause her voice was the most powerful, that´s why sometimes was strained, With Mariah i just love her placement in all her mix, she strain too but is less notorius cause her voice was very light, very soft. With Celine I love how she achieves her resonance in the mid belts, very piercing.

She used what the technique is called a "belt" meaning use majority of your chest to produce the sound that approximates an operatic tenor! The rest are easy cheap ways of achieving the sound. Whitney had the most diffcult belt technique but she manages to keep up the size and column of sound up to G#5s! no one could do this.. no one..

If I’m being honest Mariah’s voice has always been my favorite but I’ve always considered Whitney the best female singer ever. So in other words, *I* like Mariah’s voice more but I think Whitney was a better singer than her. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I prefer Whitney. But when you are as great as all of them I think it comes down to preference. But again for me Whitney Houston was the greatest.

@Liz Smith Both are great in their own aspects, I prefer Mariah's songs over Whitney's since Mariah's songs are way more difficult. But there's something about Whitney's tone that takes it all, also her natural power and stamina. She was never inconsistent in her prime. On the other hand, Mariah as an artist is more complete, she has the voice, the writing skills, production skills, success. But Whitney's voice just got me in one second.

Mariah is much more involved in her music. She does all the background vocals , writes her own music, there is something about mariah that is special... when she sings it’s like an angel

I love me some Mariah. Since we’re talking about strictly vocals, honestly I think Whitney was a born singer and is an amazing belter. Her tone is amazing and I especially love when she sings gospel songs. But I do love Mariah’s tone too, the youthful tone is God made. Her five octave range is amazing and I love how she arranges it in her music. I just wish Mariah was respected more for what she does. Her efforts are really underrated and undervalued. They are both born singers.

It’s not the Vocal Trinity, it’s Whitney and her copycats. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Sorry but all they did was put out songs that are Whitneyesque and vocals that are Whitneyesque. They basically copied her style in order to appeal to her audience. Whitney will always be the most legendary and iconic because of that. She was a true original.

Mariah's musicality really shines through in her runs and riffs. I cannot imagine anybody who can match her in that area. I've never heard her oversing in spite her of singing the most intricate of runs and riffs.

Mariah I think has the most beautiful tone, Whitney has the most power, and Celine is the most consistent (probably the best/healthiest technique)

Out of these three Celine's voice appeal to me the most. Can't really judge their technique (all of them are master level anyway) so it is just about preference.

Mariah is getting old, she can't hit the high notes anymore... she's almost 60 now. She lost her touch. and lost the sound of her whistle. Mariah in this year, is an old woman. She couldn't sing well, like She did when She was young. her vocals are irregular, her voice sounds heavy. we don't want to hear it anymore. and She often lipsync in last 7-8 years.

oh my lord i love them ALL. mariah is a crazy talent, and feels like the younger sister of the trinity; she holds a youthful tone and presence, which is where i think her runs come from. whitney “the voice” has a warm almost friendly tone that lights up a room and has arguably the best songs to her name, and some crazy signature flecks to her voice. celine makes me smile because she has the most piercing and recognisable voice, almost a spontaneous and flexible voice that takes you by surprise; she always felt like a comfortable old soul and gracious performer + props to her for keeping her voice. i think the 90s were lucky to have them all in the charts and people who compare them maliciously need to touch some grass. i could listen to whitney and celine (occasionally mariah) on shuffle until i die.

The fact Mariah built a legacy out of her damaged voice still astounds me.

I'm no expert, but while Celine and Mariah have astoundingly beautiful voices, nothing (for me) matches the clarity and sheer power of Whitney's voice. Her rendition of the national anthem still has me in awe every time I hear it. She has such a clear and comfortable mid-range that I expect her to falter when she hits the high notes, but they just come pouring out of her so effortlessly and with the same strength - it's unbelievable.

Though I love all three of them, my heart goes for Whitney. She is simply the best.

During their best, Mariah would be the most complete. But my heart always goes to Whitney. Her power is unbelievable. The way she goes from that place of power to that softness effortlessly is unmatched. She can sing very very simply and you will still see so much great (case on point: Star Spangled Banner). She proved that range shouldn't be everything that determines a great singer.

I admire them immensely. However, may I add that they were also lucky to have their careers at a moment where there were tons of talented songwriters who wrote them timeless songs.

Mariah is the best for me. It comes from her musicianship, intellect, decision making, and risk taking. Add all of that up with her technique, training, and talent and her music just becomes so intellectually stimulating. So much to think about and create sparks in your brain.

Love all three, but It's always Mariah for me. She is invested in every aspect of her artistry, she has dedicated every ounce of her life to her art, creativity and performance. She understands her voice so well, and while it's obviously deteriorated over the years due to nodules, she understands that it's the nodules that give half her range. She is so technically gifted, I could honestly listen to her sing the phone book. No shade to Whitney or Celine though. They're both unbelievably good.

The fact celine still can sing flawlessly until today is CRAZYYYYYY!!!

But in their primes, I think Whitney def had the upper edge. But overtime, Celine proved to the world as you said, that she was truly capable of taking care of her voice, and showed us her vocals are everlasting...which sadly Whitney struggled with and so did Mariah to some extent. You didn’t really go over the technique Mariah has when belting and easing her notes into pure melismas, ease, stamina, along with bridges, and riffs that are impossible to replicate. For instance, so many have never covered a song from Mariah Carey without lacking the technique she has, songs such as “Forever” is a prime example of that.

There Is no cover of " If It' s over" for example, aside from that crap of Glennis Grace, She lowered the key, skip the impossible phrasing belts and still sounds shouty and strained, while she can easily sing any whitney song in original Key , something whitney didn't even do in live, She can sing "I 'm every woman" live in original Key, while whitney always lip the climax of this song live and it sounded strained even in the studio, Go listen to that cover and compare it with Mariah's performance at the Grammys 1992 and you will see Mariah's enormous superiority over whitney Houston, over everyone even today there is no cover in original key of that song. But let's let people delude themselves

Velvet. Whitney’s voice had such a velvety depth that the other two could not match with their shrill deliveries.

Whitney Houston was incredible for pop standards but she couldn't rival the proficiency of a well trained classical singer like Eleanor Steber, Caballé, Nilsson, Verret etc. Operatic singing is a whole another level. When did she execute a messa di voce?

Its known that Whitney could sing opera too which is the hardest form of singing and requires years of training.

@@peterb6233 I have no doubt she had the tools but she wasn't there yet. Opera singers are bodybuilders of singing. She'd have to develop her registers to full potential and maximize pharyngeal resonance among other things. Whitney would be placed in a intermediate level category student.

@@peterb6233I have and she delivered those few lines of "La Donna è Mobile" greatly for a pop singer. She even executed a girare in that sustained fortissimo G5, which is a operatic feat. Whitney truly had one of the most well developed voices in nonclassical singing.

to me Mariah Carey moves me like no one else does, to me she proved that shes the best singer in the world no doubt, she proved it over and over again

Talking about vocal skills and dexterity, we can't take that away from WHITNEY. Her riffs and runs are heavenly.
