We shot Marc here on the fly on a cell phone and this is the first of several instruments that Marc has owned that we will be putting up for sale in the near future. A quick search of internet images will show him playing this very guitar in other performances.

Marc Ribot is definitely one of my favourite guitar player. He is the most interesting seated guitar player I know and I love how he is playing with such commitment.

For many years I have enjoyed the sound of this guy playing this guitar while Tom Waits recites his dark poetry! Canyadiggit!

Sounds great !. Not an Alden’s model as indicated in the Retrofret link. The gold ones with the “tribal” headstock logo were made around ‘56/‘57 for Montgomery Wards…..Montgomery Wards Model 8379. Thanks for posting !

My Dad's first guitar. It's bright yellow and has a rubber bumper around the edge. I always thought it was a piece of junk, but liked it. Can't believe they're selling for so much now on-line.

Man! When he started playing, I thought he can't even play. Listen and look at that at 0:34 👈🏻🤣 but after that warming up process, he let himself go. He creates some very interesting and unusual sounds and his rhythm is unorthodox. I remember listening to Raindogs and thinking the guy playing the guitar can't hit a damn note. Then again, there's something about that awkward sloppy playing, something raw, something beautiful, like a diamond that wants to stay coal!

He’s a lefty who chose to play right handed and admits he’s sloppy. But he was taught by a Haitian classical guitar legend, and he was a part of the 80s NY no-wave music scene in the 80s as well as a member of the Lounge Lizards, a kind of punk jazz outfit. He’s done Cuban music albums, worked in John Zorn ensembles, with Martin Medeski and Wood, Alison Krause and Robert Plant…. Trust me all those seemingly wrong notes he hits are absolutely intentional notes. With work, you can maybe learn his guitar parts and solos from songs, but it’s damn near impossible to play in that deliberately drunk-sounding style he does. In a world of boring blues based guitarists, he’s a friggen genius innovator, up there with guys like Robert Fripp and Sonny Sharrock.
