If you are looking for it, if open and facing it from the front, its on the right rear module on its side, screwed against the copper chassis. there's a flat ribbon connected to it. Its easy to take apart and put together. I hope this helps you.

    Yes, I agree with you. I had an SR7500 in the beginning, then I bought AV7705 and used SR7500 only as an amplifier. Difference was huge. Then I bought MM8077 to replace my old SR7500, difference was significant as well. But now when I replaced AV7705 with AV8805A, it's slightly better, but nothing revolutionary. But I like it anyway, will keep it until I'll be able to replace it with Trinov Altitude.

    I did not expect this unit to be fully balanced as the price point is too low when considering the unit handles every immersive format available. Licensing fees aren’t cheap by any means, plus the addition of the added components. To get this amount of flexibility and still be fully balanced would mean buying either a Storm or Trinnov, and we all know how expensive those are. In my opinion this unit is properly priced and offers good bang for the buck. If you want a fully balanced unit at a reasonable price, it won’t have all of the various formats available. It’s a matter of personal preference. For me, I’m dying to try DTS:X Pro and the Auro 3D up-mixer for music. I have to disagree with you on all the analog inputs. I think it’s great that Marantz has kept them because not everyone can afford to update their entire system at a whim. Just because someone buys this unit doesn’t mean they’re rich. It could be they’re trying to upgrade their system as they can afford it. As far as the 7.1 analog inputs go, I’m guessing they’re mainly for high-end SACD units as their DACs may quite possibly be superior to the DACs in this unit. And yes, there are still a number of us SACD fans out there. Even though SACD wasn’t successful for main stream music, there are still a fair number of fans left. And, it also has a surprisingly respectful number of fans from the classical music market. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the video and thought you did a great job. I just don’t agree with some of the things you said. And, as others have mentioned, I hope you’ll be able to do a teardown of an AVM70 or AVM90 when it comes out.

  • @boredtech

    @boredtech

    Thank you for such a constructive feedback! About the analog inputs. It's probably almost 20 years since I bought my first AV Receiver, and I have never used 5.1/7.1 inputs. Maybe someone needs them for SACD's. I'm personally playing my 5.1 SACD's on Marantz UD7007 which is connected via HDMI to AV8500A. About the price. Yes, I agree that they have to pay for almost every logo that they put on their products (THX, IMAX enhanced, Dolby Atmos, DTS-X and so on). But I don't thing that making it fully balanced would increase the price drastically. Especially when you only have to modify section between DACs and HDAMs. Oh yes, AVM70, AVM90, Denon AVC-A110, Emotiva, Yamaha Aventage... If someone could borrow me one of these I would be able to produce another exiting video.

    @@boredtech You probably know this already but for those that don't ... If you have a media player with a really good DAC in it and you connect it to your receiver/processor via HDMI cable, the really good DAC will get bypassed and the one in your receiver/processor will be used instead. If you're not sure which DAC is better, simply disconnect the HDMI cable and hook up your media player via the analog 5.1/7.1 inputs and see which way sounds better.

    I love the precise teardown and the details you have shared in this excellently made video... a heartfelt appreciation for all the painstaking effort you put into making it... I'm from India.. a fee months ago I purchased a refurbished 8805 from the US... it's 120v 60Hz... I have moved to India and am using it here at 220v 50Hz...I used a step-down transformer; however I'm wondering if it can be used at the local input voltage....? Unfortunately I'm receiving higher electricity bill then normal, assuming due to the power wastage via the stepdown transformer. On opening the unit is notice the smps board mentions 220v and the other processing pcb's also mention 220v...I'm wondering if the transformer also may be rated for 220v...? I don't see any specs printed on the transformer... on repeatedly watching your video and comparing the parts with mine...they look same...so you think I could power it directly into the 220v and have it work perfectly..or will I KILL the unit?? Your advise will be highly appreciated. Thanks much and stay blessed.

Normal output is there from HDMI 2(monitor) What could be wrong? I'm just out of the warranty period. Will the entire board with all the HDMI that you showed,needs to be replaced ? Great video! Regarding the XLR inputs vs the analog (or 7.1 analog) inputs.. Looking at the service manual, it would appear that ONLY the 7.1 analog inputs bypass the digital volume control/ADC for the normal analog inputs. Can you confirm? This leads me to believe that only the 7.1 analog input ins appropriate for a turntable, assuming you don't want analog-to-digital conversion of that signal.

    Hi Sam, Center, Subwoofer , Surround Right, Surround Left, Surround Back Right and Surround Back Left inputs of 7.1 group, only passing through the NJU72343 (ELECTRONIC VOLUME CONTROL). But front Left and front Right can be routed to ADC via NJU72750 switcher or can follow the same route as C,SW,SR,SL,SBR,SBL If you want to bypass ADC-DAC 7.1 should work. I have to dig deeper in to the user manual to find out how it's done exactly.

    Excellent comprehensive breakdown. Analytical people are most apt to make it through the video, like me. :) It would be nice that you describe the quality of some of the chips versus other those of manufacturers for consumers that are considering purchase of this unit. The lack of truly balanced XLR was indeed a disappointment, and having so many analog inputs seemed unnecessary for a high end unit such as this one. In some cases, more is not better. In fact, those that are looking at this unit want not only quality, but the latest technology if better, and upgradeability to keep pace with everchanging formats. When comparing to the AV7705, it would be nice if you thought it was a significant upgrade for the dollar. Overall, I very much enjoyed your presentation. Thank you!

    Really good informative video, not a real balance unit, and a lot of bells and whistles. That's why Marantz don't make the best sounding home theater processor, but they still descent.

    When you see what is inside one of these av amplifiers laid bare there is not very much to them and what they charge no wonder the price of thse expensive av amplifiers drop like a brick after a couple of years. Morale of this story is all AV processors and or AV Amplifiers have mainly all got similar components inside of them, I dont understand how a Lyngdorf MP-40 is worth $12.000. I doubt I would ever spend that much on an AV Processor so the most I would spend is $4.000 on a Yamaha AV receiver and be doen with it, really dont see the monetary value in all this silicone no matter how good sounding they may be can't be that better than the run of the mill all in one AV Receivers. So thsi is directed to the the author of the video congratulations on your hard efforts you have balls of steel to undertake such an adventure doubt I would be doiung that to any of my AV components though I do tinker a bit but nothign on thsi sacle not a whoe disassembly so tell me what will you do witht the AV Receiver once you have built it back up will you keep it for your self or will you sell it on flea bay. I weas shocked if I tell the truth of the amplifier section it looks super puney compared to my 7 channel lexicon separate power amplifier.

    Thanks fur such a great comment! :-) Indeed it's quite stressful to take them apart. Especially when you have to film it. But I enjoy it. For now I will keep my AV8805A and MM8077 but hopefully one day I can afford Trinov Altitude 32. Yes it's over 20.000$, but it's a pro grade product.

    Maybe the amplifier section looks puny compared to your separate power amp because this is not an amplifier!

    Interesting! Much has come since 1978 and my 2285B. Gotta say however there was quite a bit of flux goop on a number of those boards, and more cheapy China cap brands than I would've expected coming from them. Also no gold plated boards/pads either; weird mix at times with thru hole and SMD. Surprised they dodged using SMD style caps. But hey I get it-- 21st century, cost cutting, pandemic, blah blah blah gotta cut some corners. They don't have to make a brand new Keysight spectrum analyzer here either so...why go harder than necessary. Not like it was done poorly though; Altera Sharc's, high performance DACs, lots of effort in to combating RF noise, etc. Lots of BB in there and a TON of JRC in that thing holy hell lol! Must have something contracted with JRC as much use of that brand as we saw in there.

    i don,t like new technology because everything is made in china and have in circuits ( conmuted stuff, and thats means we can,t fix it or repair, i prefer old echnology, because are made to work more more years, and we can fix it, all my technology stuff are vintage and works good after more than 20 years ,
