    Just a quick note: The SR8015 has a pre-setting which shuts off the power amp and allows for processing only if one is so inclined or you can set the front L and R to be process only and run it through a fine amp that way for 13 channels. I love mine.

    Finally the AV7706 is there this fall with its 8K/60Hz 4K/120H and full Hdmi 2.1 features stack. Can't wait to hear from it on your channel. I plan to upgrade my Denon AVR-X5200W. I'm looking at this separate solution paired with Monolith amplifiers as well. I originally planned to use the Denon AVR-X4700H in pre-amp mode, but your explanation about better audio components and better separation is what triggered my interrest to a dedicated processor. For sure I'm going for a separate amplification. Much cheaper on the long run!!

    its' actually still pretty amazing the sound quality you get from better AVR', after all these years! Technology definitely kept improving, and the performance per dollar improved to a point where you actually need separates , for the average person! I'd say most do just fine running speakers as small, using powered subs, and that's all you'll likely need. Yes, better equipment dictates separates, and you get better potential sound quality. Again, depends on speakers and rest of the system though,including your expectations, lifestyle, setup, acoustics, etc whether the law of diminishing kicks in above or bellow your needs. When in doubt, and money's not an issues, yes, get separates for higher end performance

I'm looking at most likely buying the 7015, as I have a five channel amp to power the mains and two rears, and would need the receiver only for the four atmos speakers I'm running so the additional power per channel rating of the 8015 is not usable for my situation. I do wonder about if there is any sound quality difference between the two though.

    Just received my Anthem AVR that is hooked up to Totem acoustics bc I place priority on listening more critically to music, but, anything I choose has to go from 2 channel to Home Theatre in my den and bonus rooms. I have Emotiva separates in the bonus. The Anthem is just out of the box and I haven’t had time to use any room correction and the music sounds phenomenal. My wife even commented on how nice and warm it sounds. I also use Cambridge and Arcam products over time so I’ve heard quite a few products who do it well. So far very impressed.

    Great and very useful video. Thanks a lot for that. Question: What about to hear just music in surround or stereo as well? Are them also a very good option? Because I had a bad experience to have just a single unit with the amplifier integrated (Denon in my case) and the sound for music listening is poor, not clear, etc. So, for instance, with that marantz AV7705 with an amplifier as Monolith 11x... the sound quality for just music would be clear and high quality? or what would be your recommendation about this? Thanks!

    interesting, i always thought the main advantage of seperates was the extra power provided to the speakers from a dedicated power amp, yet from your experience it was the extra finese of the seperate processer better calibrating and mixing the surround soundstage.

    Hey Michael, (WARNING THIS COULD BE LONG) my name is Roy Diaz and I am new to this whole home theater gig but I am getting a lot of knowledge for this from you and your KZread counterparts. I will in the future be getting a Klipsch Reference Premier line (with either Klipsch SPL or SVS line for subwoofers) for a possible 7.2.4 or 7.2.6 (depending on space) Dolby Atmos system with by-amping my fronts (L&R) and my surround rears (L&R). This video has helped me a lot (along with other videos) to understand how to use AVRs with amplifiers and also utilizing separates, which I am considering very highly. I do have a couple of confusing questions that I am asking help with. Essentially, if I am going to use separates, how(1) and with what(2) would I need use the Marantz AV8805 in order to complete my sounding/video staging to include by-amping connections for my fonts (Klipsch RP-8000F) and surround rears (Klipsch RP-6000F or the RP-600M)? Any and all sounding advice or considerations would be most helpful. I know it is all up to my preferences and space but in this case knowledge is power. Thank you very much. Please let me know through this comment thread (instead of the video teleconference that you all do daily) as my schedule does not permit me to be available during your KZread Daily HI-FI.

  • @kingcrimson234

    @kingcrimson234

    Balanced outputs have no benefit other than being better at canceling out external noise, which shouldn't be an issue anyway at short distances like if you just have an amp sitting right on top of a processor and you just have some 1-2 foot RCA cables connecting them. If you're not running 10-20+ foot cables, there's no reason to use balanced. There is absolutely no difference in quality and unbalanced is 100% not a problem.

    My next upgrade will be to another AVR but specifically one with multi-channel pre-outs. Still a few years from that upgrade but the idea is I can use receiver power and then buy amps for that then once I'm at that then it will be a lot easier of a transition. I know with the new Denon/Marantz receivers you can set them to a pre-pro mode that disables all internal amplification and reduces noise levels which is kinda bridges the gap even more, hope more manufacturers follow suit.

I had a Rotel preamp processor 1570 and Rotel 1565 D - class 5 channel Amp .I Now have the Marantz SR6014 and I can say I haven't greatly lost any sound quality in the change over only noticeable is a slight decrease in dynamics. I really enjoy the tonal quality of the Marantz SR6014 overall. I think like I did careful research to find the receiver that suits yours needs but without a doubt if i had the money i would got back to separates but at this time I'll stick with my Marantz. Excellent presentation, however, little confusing at the beginning. When explaining the AVR you started by talking about the processor component. When you talked about the processor, you noted the lack of amplification. All true, however, to a novice they may think that the pre/pro did not have all the processor compensation like Dolby, Atmis etc. Which obviously is not true. Bottom line, the only difference really is the amplification on the AVR vs no amp on the pre/pro.

    I have an AC Infinity unit on top of my Yamaha Aventage RX-A1000 receiver. Nice component. However, though not an expert, I believe that thermal cycling is very important. My view it to set up any cooling component to be gradual and cotinuous as opposed to on/off cycling. Cooler amp operation should provide better sound so, of course ventilation is important. Some custom AV furniture restricts cooling which is why I added the AC Infinity unit. This and power surge protection will likely become more important in the future as the US infrastructure becomes more reliant on electricity. The power grid will continue to be more taxed in the future. For the first time in the 35 years I have had Yamaha components I had a power surge component failure with my excellent Yamaha Aventage RX-A1000. My surge protection was not sufficient after 40 years of upgraded protection. Cross your fingers for windmills and solar energy dependence.

    Nice. From your 8012 receiver to 7705 pre/pro does the sound differences is day and night? how about from 7705 to monolith HTP1? does HPT1 sound much better than 7705? Because me myself heard so many people saying pre/pro is much better than AVR, so I am wating from my Emotova XMC-2 to replace my Denon AVR X6400H. I am expect a much better sound from XMC-2. We'll see when the XMC-2 arrived. Actually I prefer HTP1 than XMC-2 but unfortunately HTP1 is not available in my country.

    Definitely go separated over higher end avrs. But, it’s hard to recommend the appropriate brands and models without knowing the budget you’d like to stay at for the pre pro and amp. I’m sure Youthman will recommend one brand and model for a $4000 budget and a totally different brand and model with a $10,000 budget. Knowing how much you have to work with will allow Youthman to give you the best advice on what to buy, IMO.

The power (25 watts more)... and having a setup mic to use room correction. My previous Onkyo 100 watt/ch/2ch used AccuEQ and was configured for speakers I had long ago (i lost the setup mic a while ago) so I tried my best manually configuring distance, level, eq for the Klipsch...The front speakers sound great now.
