I went with the 40n and it sounds outstanding with a pair of Linton Heritage speakers.

Thank you for doing this. This helps a lot. If i hear correctly, the n30 makes those speakers sound a little bit brighter. I wish youtube will allow using songs that we know to better know to ease spotting the difference. .. lovely set up btw. I love it

I would say the Model 30 from Marantz is the drier more analytical-sounding amplifier. Thanks for your support and for watching!

Thank you for making this comparison video! Great job! Loved your purple lighting... - Personally I preferred the sound of the Model 30 as it seemed to have more resolved detail, better instrument separation, sound-stage and imaging, tighter more defined bass, textured and quick. Definitely has an audiophile signature with added Marantz smoothing. For the critical listener it seems to tick all the right boxes... Perhaps the Model 40n would be more for the rock-n-roll lover where a little blending would be beneficial and less fatiguing... Watch out for bright speakers though with the Model 30. :) - But in the end both are very good in different ways.

Hi Marcello, nice selection of music to do the comparison. Does the 30 produce a much better soundstage than the 40N?

Question how did you hook up subs to the model 30? I am relatively new to hifi, I picked up a Model 30 last September, and am wanting to add a rel t7x to my system but there’s no sub outs?

Worthy to note, those are 2 completely different designs. Model 40n = 70W/channel, and it's class AB with a big torodial transformer + a DAC The 30 = 100W/channel, and it's class D (Hypex nCore). Model 30 sounded better (thank you so much Bruno Putzeys). And it has MM, MC low mid high, for vinyl lovers this is an amazing piece of equipment !!!

I thought it was the opposite, 30 = class AB and 40n = class D...according to the seller I have in front of me right now.

the 30 is little more effortless, we are now defiantly stepped into a digital age now. I wonder if I can recap the critical part of the 40 to sound little more clear, I really want the streaming function of the 40n

I have listened a few 30 vs 40 demons on the KZread, the 30 seems has just a touch of digital glare but the 40 has more problems such as mid bass bleed into vocal, imaging has restricted high (size), and much less transparent, I can fix the 30 with a different cabling but the 40 need much more work to sound right, of course, the 40 packed with features that the 30 is just an amp

Hi. I wonder if I could use HDMI ARC on this amplifier to connect it to my PC. Do you think this is possible or should I use optical instead? If only this amplifier had USB DAC it would be perfect.

As I understand it, the 40n has its own DAC while the 30n does not? Here you used a Chord Hugo TT2 for both amps, but, would the 40n not be better off left using its own DAC that has been (I would expect) optimised for it? I really don't know, it's just a thought. I also wonder if either amp might fair better with specific speaker pairings? I am someone that would want to stream Apple Music, now that it has hi-rez files to stream. I notice that exactly how this is done has not been covered in any video that I have ever seen, and I do wonder what would be the best option to do this with these two amps. I have always liked Marantz and B&W combinations, although it's been a few years since I had one

Hi @Peter Freeman this is Marcello from TSAV. I actually bought the 40n for my home and use it solo in another room at the moment with it's own built in DAC which is terrific for it. Much of audio is about preference and system matching to achieve what your preferences are. So yes choosing the right speakers, DAC, Turntable, CD player etc to go with your chosen components are all important in building your ideal system. I personally don't use Apple music and the Native HEOS app currently doesn't have Apple Music as an option which is why you have likely not seen much content around it. In order to play Apple Music according to DENON's website you will need to use Bluetooth, but again I have not tried it as I prefer Qobuz, Tidal through ROON and Amazon Music HD or Tidal through HEOS for my Hi-Res Music Streaming. I hope this helps some, the 40n is a stellar piece of audio kit.

You can’t play Apple Music high res on anything unless you wire your iPad or iPhone to the amp via USB. Airplay is the next best option at cd quality.

I mean, yes 40n 's DAC is "master tuned" for its amp part, however, TT2 is a 5000+ dollars monster... an internal DAC has no way to compete.

I'm trying to understand why did you use chord Hugo for this test. I thought the whole point was to test internal DACs in each Marantz?

There is no internal DAC in the Model 30.

@@TheSourceAVDesignGroup ah, so there is no. I understand now. I am about to purchase Model 40n. I don't see this anywhere in 40n's manual but maybe you could tell me assuming you are/were in posession of this amplifier: Does it display sample rate of the song? There is a 'Info' button on remote control that I was hoping does just that. Yet moanual does not mention what this button do. Also, I have a chord mojo 2. Do you think it beats internal DAC of Marantz 40n? If so I could use it as a DAC and use Marantz purely for amplification only.

The model 40n stacks up pretty well. The subs are clearly like 4 decibels too high - it dominates everything.

I hear the 40n as the warmer sounding of the two amplifiers. The Model 30 of course will be influenced by the DAC or source component you feed it, however feeding both the Chord TT2 and the Model 30 sounds drier and more analytical of the two amps which makes sense as the Model 30 is a Class D power amplifier after all and the 40n is Class A/B.
