    Thanks a lot for the uploads. I admire many of the items you are playing. can I ask you for your opinion. if you would have to rank / compare Q Acustics M20 Sonus Faber Lumina 1 + Amplifier Cabasse MC170 + Cabasse MC 170 which one would be your favourite. I understand that the Q Acustics comes cheaper and leaves some pocket money to spend diferently. thanks a lot

    It is never fair to compare Active\Powered speakers to full systems with Passive speakers, because those are different type of products. It is like comparing a station car and an SUV, they both get you from one point to another, but you first need to choose the category you want. Anyway, for value for money, you can't beat active speakers in general and Q Acoustics M20 specifically, they are an amazing value. The Sonus Faber Lumina are a real wonder in terms of what they produce from such a small package, but with an amp, it is a totally different budget. The sound is quite different too, with the Sonus being smoother and sweeter but the M20 is punchier and more energetic.

    Hello nice combo! Would Lumina 2 or 3 be another upgrade from this? Maybe some more bass and deep end? The broad soundstage is amazing from these small speakers! Would these speakers be fatiguing overtime because of the highs?

    Hi, I haven't heart the bigger Lumina brothers, they will definitely have more bass, but my guess would be that will probably not be as much as you would expect. The Lumina I are very smooth, a bit warm, and very pleasent to listen too. If that is the character of sound that you like, I don't think they are fatiguing at all.

    @@AudioVideoReviews I was looking for some floorstanding speakers to cover the full audio spectrum with a budget of max 1800 eur per pair. Ik sold my old monitor bronze bx2 speakers which weren't so engaging, musical or smooth. I like a broad, beautiful, open , detailed sound without harshness, sharpness or too much transparancy. Do you recommend something?

    I remember that I have enjoyed them a lot at low and medium volume levels. Did no try them on movies, but they have great dynamics and a natural sound, which should be good in movies as well. If you are a big movie fan, I would consider adding a sub to them.

As far as I understand, you want monitors to be as neutral as possible, those sonus faber speakers are soft and pleasant sounding, they really make anything sound smooth and very pleasant, so I highly recommend them for anyone who enjoys those characteristics of sound, but i’m not sure this is what you are looking for in a studio monitors.

    I haven't tried this combo, but those speakers don't seem to require a lot of power to shine, so I believe the combo could work. However a match between components is much more than just spec matching, so I really suggest to try for yourself before buying.

    What do you think about adding subwoofer to them? I have small living room and I'd prefer Lumina I but salesman told me I may not be satisfied with bass especially when used for more modern music/movies. I was thinking about SVS SB 1000 Pro, but maybe you have already tried sth different?

  • @AudioVideoReviews

    @AudioVideoReviews

    2 жыл бұрын

    My recommendation is simple, get the speakers you want and try for yourself if you are lacking bass and power. Then consider adding a sub. If you are looking for a music performance first, I would consider REL subs, but SVS are excellent as well. Each room is different and it is a manner of personal test, so choose the speakers you like first, and continue slowly from then. Building a HiFi system is journey of figuring out what you like and what you don’t.

    When you connect the speaker wires to the HI terminals, you get a slight high frequency emphasis. When you connect to the LOW terminals, you get a slight low frequency emphasis. When you connect one to HI, and one to LOW, you get better balance. Just try, cost you nothing.

    What do you make of this Amazon review? "The more I spend the more hogwash I discover. For the nth time I bought another equipment blindly based off of glowing online reviews (both written and video reviews) and am thoroughly disappointed and angered. This amplifier has rave reviews all over the internet starting from WhatHiFi to KZread and 'professional audio equipment reviewers' and I can't believe how underwhelming and underpowered this amplifier is in reality. The rave reviews praise the high quality toroidal power transformer and the astonishing 60000 micro Farad of capacitance inside this unit and I was expecting these to translate to great sound. I am shocked and surprised that that is nowhere the case with the Audiolab 6000 A. The sound is thin, unengaging, lacking in texture, body and presence. The mids, lower mids and base are thin and the highs are not smooth or pleasing. The sound is just flat and unenjoyable and the amplifier sounds very underpowered."

    These Sound demos are utterly useless except for the images. All you hear is your own speakers (or headphones). In many cases an inferior TV speaker. Unbelievable that people don’t realize that…

  • @Untilitpases

    @Untilitpases

    2 жыл бұрын

    Most experienced people not only realise that, but *compensate* for it to an extend. First, wear revealing, open back headphones. So you can get a sense for both the detail retrieval & spaciousness of the sound + how it matches with an amp. And these videos aren't meant to be definitive, just guidelines. Some speakers sound hollow, others are luscious but recessed, others aggressive but siblant. Essentially, an experienced listener has a specific goal in mind, isn't looking to understand a speaker from a to z through videos. But let's entertain that thought for a second. There's a lot of sonic qualities that one can grasp from a video. The character/voicing of a speaker for instance, the speed & cohesion, scale, the bass attack and resolution. (Ideally, the more I know about a setup, the better I am at subtracting "interference.") Finally, get used to the song being played so you get familiar with how it should sound. Hear the same song on another speaker. What a speaker chooses to emphasize, what's there and what's missing are typical tells. Free returns and live auditioning aren't options we all enjoy, let alone for peculiar brands.
