Manual Hellcat Red Key VS Black Key Highway Pull Speed Tests!! Horsepower Gauge And Butt Dyno Tested

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Ever wondered how much faster a Hellcat is when using the red key vs black key?? Watch this video as we do several highway pulls back to back to compare the power on a manual Hellcat Challenger using both power modes using my butt dyno and the horsepower gauge in the SRT performance pages. There's also a ton of Hellcat supercharger whine in this video as we do Hellcat acceleration testing with the black key vs red key.
I didn't swap the keys to make this easier to test back to back so instead I used the SRT drive modes to switch between 700 and 500 horsepower levels, which should have the same end result. How does the power feel like for a Hellcat black key vs 392?
I'm using the scientific methods of butt dyno and horsepower gauges in the SRT performance pages for the testing in this video. So strap in and enjoy the video!

Perfect videos at a Perfect time! I own a scat pack challenger 6 speed manual and just test drove a hellcat charher with the black key ! Honestly I wasnt impressed. Felt just like a scat pack. 15k more for the charger but I feel isnt worth the extra 207 h.p. since now the hellcat will just be slower to 60 than my acat pack because of to much power and traction issues!

The whine is intoxicating though! But I wouldn't give up the manual. Those are a rare breed nowadays and so much more fun!

Haha hey 300hp is nothing to scoff at. I used to have a G35 that was 280 and that car was plenty fast. This thing is just bonkers fast.

I get wheel spin on my 5500 lb. Jeep Unlimited with it's 6 speed manual. But that transmission is short and full of torque, plus I don't have much additional lift.

That's bad ass! How high do you get the revs up before you dump it to get wheel spin? 👍

2015; got my first hellcat. Beautiful ivory white with a black hood red accent interior with red seatbelts and manual transmission. Traded for a 2016 pitch black automatic. I regret that at this time.😞

@@natesrt Great question. Back in 2015 -16 all of the emphasis was on speed and quickness. The automatics were very desirable and although the stick shift was classic and I really felt good about my purchase initially, I always found that the shifting was somewhat clumsy and taking off briskly was always a trade-off between an awkward Launch versus breaking the tires loose. At that time I did pay over MSRP for that first hellcat challenger because they were very tough to come by. I investigated an aftermarket shifter but a friend of mine and I were talking about after spending all that money why would I have to do anything? In June 2016 I had an opportunity to trade for an automatic that was going for sale at MSRP about an hour and a half up the road. By now the hellcat market had cooled somewhat and the hysteria was dying down. I initially loved my automatic challenger hellcat and still really enjoy it, however in retrospect I should’ve stayed with the original car. Why? Because stick shift is simply fine. There is no sense worrying about speed or track times because there is always somebody faster. Even now, the people that had more capable gasoline cars than a hellcat we’re going to soon be mopped up on a regular basis by the new electric revolution. In retrospect I should have switched to an aftermarket shifter to make it more enjoyable and precise along with a lower rear differential gear to make takeoff less drama filled. The stick shift guards had not forgotten me however and in 2018 I was looking for a new truck and ended up sort of by accident getting a New ram 3500 with a Cummins turbo diesel. It’s a basic tradesmen work truck but the neat thing is that it is a six speed manual. I did not know what I had until I learn more about trucks and the whole diesel universe and I now I’m very happy I have the truck. I still cruise car gurus looking for that mystical Green 2015 sublime hellcat challenger in automatic or stick but I think I would go with the stick now.

I read about that truck. Nice find getting it with the manual - that's going to be a rare beast. The stock shifter on the Hellcat is really bad. They really should have used a better unit from the factory. With the Barton, it was like night and day - really amplified the driving experience for me. Good luck hunting! Sublime is an awesome color!

The reason you’re not noticing anything is because you don’t feel horsepower.. What you’re feeling is torque Nate

Thanks man, good point! Looking at some of the dyno numbers that people did though, the torque is also reduced with the black key.

@@natesrt Not sure! I bought my Hellcat already tuned by Tim Barth so when I have it on 707hp mode it puts down the full 900whp but I swear when I put it on 500 hp it feels like I makes no boost and I think my 300 srt8 would destroy it lol

@@natesrt For sure! First on the fuel, that’s why I love Costco! Also a better value on the high octane fuel. Glad I got the PPF. Dropped two lawn chairs on it in the garage today and was able to get it to “self heal“. Haven’t floored it yet. Tons of power at 1/3 flooring it. Punched it at a light and didn’t move! Lol! Realized I was burning rubber. Much more fun than my Tesla P85 or 100 were. Just very different.

For sure on the fuel. Just wish I had a Costco nearby. They are rated as top tier fuel also so comparable to the major brands. I really wish I did the PPF now. That's incredible! Lmao at you just sitting there spinning at the light 😂
