    i slowed this video down to .25% playback speed and still couldnt catch the frames between when it it's claws are relaxed and when it strikes the crab. It moves faster than the camera can film

    @@colin-campbell not really..if you look closely... you can see a air vacuum when he releases his arm and it surrounds his arm until it impacts the prey and sure it might not reach the temperature of the sun but it can get really really hot only for a moment

    What blew my mind most about this was 2-fold -- he can crack his way through a seashell as effortlessly as a nutcracker opening up the shell of a walnut, and he's temporarily exposed to a temperature of 10,000 degrees F, which is the sun's surface temperature. The natural world is filled with wonder and awe!

    Air has some resistance in it as well. Not sure how much dense it is versus a body of water though. I guess that will depend on the altitude where the action is taking place. Just thinking out loud.

    @@mohamedkaba6934 The viscosity of water is about 50x greater than air at the surface of the Earth. It is much harder to move around in water (for a human at least!) but obviously these animals have evolved to live in the water. Anyway, apparently the mantis shrimp can slow its punch speed down when out of water. Clever things!

    That would make it less powerful though, Since it essentially boils the water around its fist, and basically cooks its prey. if it was on the surface, this would not be able to happen.

    @@scpfoundation4609 you think speed only boil water? with enough speed it is possible to create fire by simply accelerating the oxygen particles in the air, of course it would dissipate a lot more faster too, but I'm pretty sure this thing can do a "hot" punch in the surface although his body would suffer as it is not adapted to use full power oit of water, inside water it helps absorbing the recoil and backlash from such a movement.
