ENTP shrimp?
Warren Fahey wrote a science fiction novel, "Fragment", in 2009. It depicts an isolated island inhabited by animals that evolved from a mantis shrimp-like ancestor. They are TERRIFYING.
They call the slashing type "thumb cutters" in Australia. Aquarium keepers hate these things because if they get into a tank, they will kill off the other fish and marine life, they hide and are hard to find and remove, and they can even smash and break aquarium glass. In Japan, they are called "shako", and they are eaten fried or in sushi. They're a regional specialty. They're also eaten in China, Vietnam and some other countries. They taste more like lobster than shrimp.

I love how some of the fastest and strongest motions are often part of an insect or crustacean. Like the harpoon of a cone snail or bite of a trap jaw ant, but that doesn’t even hold a candle to a punch UNDERWATER that’s hits so hard it creates super heated bubbles. It’s funny because from a distance, and if you didn’t know, it just looks like a wee shrimp punch. Thank god this guy is brightly colored…

1:23the reason they see less precise color is actually *because* they have so many cones. The cones are just so close together that colors that are close together become a muddled mess. Their visual color range is roughly the same as ours but they just have less distinction
And the material that recovers their little clubs has the most resillient molecular structure of any other animal material. Basically, they have the best eyes and the strongest punch from any living creature. Mantis shrimps are cool af.

This is one of those times when you’re humbled by the fact that one of the strongest creatures is not something massive. The fact that this shrimp creates shock wave punches underwater alone tells you just how strong it is, try punching while fully submerged in water, you won’t do much damage
I bet it’s made up of WAY more funky colours, we just can’t see them.

Which is why it dresses like an idiot! 😅
I used this video as a reference for an online class, specifically the part about "imagine a color you can't even imagine, now do that nine more times", and got an A on the assignment.
Love this channel, the information, the humour and wonderful wild life.
Imagine a colour that you can't even imagine. Now do that nine more times. That is how a mantis shrimp do.

" have you heard the story of the hermit crab and the mantis shrimp? one day, that's it, that's the whole story." lmfao
It’s funny to hear how much his voice has changed
"Did that guy just hand him his own arm?" Mantis Shrimp cares less than Honey Badger do.
A mantis shrimp punches with 1500 newtons of force, which is about 58 pounds. The average mantis shrimp weighs about 6 ounces. Meaning, a mantis shrimp has a power to weight ratio of 407 to 1. For a 180 pound human to match that ratio they would have to punch with a force of 45,871 newtons. That is a punch with the weight of 4,675 pounds behind it. The world record for the hardest punch is just over 1,000 pounds. That's so insane.

I kept a peacock mangos shrimp for a few years in a separate tank above my main marine tank.. by far the most interesting and engaging critter of all the weird stuff I had living in the reef tank.. they way they move reminds me of Randall from monsters Inc.creepy but mesmerisi g at the same time.
I highly enjoyed your commentary!! This was very interesting!! Thank you for being awesome!

shamanazakura That's looks good, but it is not clear enough to work sadly. Maybe I will upload a cleaner photo of that scene and use that or another image of a crab self-amputating. Great work though making the meme. :)

The mantis shrimp must be the spirit animal of aspiring artists everywhere. If anyone is wondering if their painting is turning out good, just imagine what the mantis shrimp sees when he looks at it, and then openly weep at the inability to see the myriad of colors that the mantis shrimp can. And the inability to cause reality to collapse in on itself by punching things.

When I was in the Philippines, one of the markets I saw had a bunch of these evil little shits available for exotic seafood. But all of the live ones were sealed up in bottles because the shopkeep had to find a way to keep the shrimp alive without having anymore customers sent to the hospital from being speared or punched...
