Mantis Shrimp Punches Crab’s Arm Off

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The Peacock Mantis Shrimp is a puny pugilist with a ferocious attitude. They are more than a little territorial, they know exactly who’s moving through their patch...Unaware of the mantis shrimp’s presence, the crab strays close. Too close. With the velocity of a .22 caliber bullet, the mantis shrimp’s strike is the fastest in the animal kingdom The assault is so fast that friction makes the surrounding water boil... The devastating punch knocks the limbs of the victim and delivers a quick death...

It's a common misconception that mantis shrimp can see more colors than us. Yes, they have 12 different spectral color cones, while we only have 3. However, our brain is able to activate linear combinations of those 3 cones for any given region of our field of view. This allows us to see millions of different colors. Mantis shrimp's brains, on the other hand, can only activate one at a time, for any given region of their field of view. This only allows them to see 12 colors.

If we calculate a human sized shrimp simply by multiplying strength the same as its size, it would be punching at about mach 5. But people who say things like that ignore physics. Ya can't just size up animals and expect them to work due to volume effecting circulation and weight and thermodynamics. An arthropod 100x the size of a commonly sized one could (and have) existed, but they wouldn't be supercreatures. Their size would handicap their impressive capabilities far more than enhance.

I've seen bigger species of mantis shrimp knock holes in divers goggles. These things are seriously territorial. Also not a creature you'd want in an aquarium, everybody's seem the video of the aquarium being shattered by their "punch", however my buddy had one of the smaller species in his aquarium and the thing would freak out every time he'd change the volume on his tv. Presumably because the shrimp could see the infrared signal from the remote. Truly awesome shrimp!

He actually isn't using friction at all and the narrator is an idiot. It actually creates a cavitation bubble that explodes on itself and releases up to 20,000 Kelvin which is hotter than the surface of the sun. It also punches with a force of 10,400 Gs or about a velocity of 51 MPH. If a human could punch with that velocity they could break through steel. For perspective that punch is about 50 times faster than the human eye can blink.

Peacock Mantis Shrimp, from what have I gathered , it has the most powerful punches of all time. Lmao that is SOOOO Bungie hahaha. Always made stupid decisions especially back when Destiny 1 was still pre-Taken King era. Nerfing everything over 1 bad apple, somehow immediately patches all cheeses yet takes 6-8 months to fix both Atheon and Crota, knew Thorn and Last Word took over the Crucible for many months yet was focused on other bs and Deej even makes a super corny post related to those guns haha. I miss Destiny 1 and 2 but Bungie’s track record for those games regarding proper support and good decisions definitely leaves something to be desired.
