Mandola Tune played by Tom Kimber
Музыка
Another new tune of mine called 'Trip to Ullswater.' Tuned CGDG with one string taken off the bottom, which I felt gave me some slightly cleaner, but quieter, sounding bass notes. Played on a Flatiron Mandola.

Gorgeous tune and great playing, Tom. Curious if your Flatiron has a maple or koa back and sides? Asking as someone who just purchased a 2M Mandola and love the tone your pulling out of this instrument.
Tenor mandola from Montana...I have a matching one 😊

It’s a great instrument, I love mine!
Beyond a tune and an impression of a state of being. It takes me to another place and in less than two minutes. I hope that doesn't sound pretentious or offend? Beyond the missing unison C string, I'm intrigued by the tone you achieve . The muted effect. We can't see the right hand fully, but you don't seem to be muting the strings. Feather pick or the charm of a Flatiron?

Thanks very much Adrian, not at all! You're right, I'm not muting the strings, however I am using a thick pick (Wegen TF140) and I'm using a pretty light touch on this one to try and get the warmest tone I can. The instrument sounds great too!

Doh! Being a bit, well, rubbish, I've always favoured thin light picks thinking I'll make less of a racket! 😉 I'm humbled that you choose a thick pick to achieve that soft, warm tone.

@@adrianbell4597 I find the control a thicker pick gives me means that I can get a big range of tone and volume out of an instrument for tune playing. That’s not to say thin picks don’t have their uses, great for chordal accompaniment.

Thanks for the insight. I'll give some thicker picks another try.
I hope you named your Mandola Nelson.
