There’s always going to be the people in the comment section saying “oh easy for you to say. I have to pay for X,Y,Z” No. Most of us could live for less. But most of us aren’t willing to give up having a car and insurance to have a bike. Most of us want our 7 streaming platforms for which pay a sub fee for. Most of us bought the nice house and now have a hefty mortgage. We all trap ourselves thinking we need everything Joe smoe has. We pay for “comforts” that ultimately don’t comfort us from our real issues.

Not speaking of a car or various luxuries but at least, you need a food, shelter, clothes and occasionaly a medical help, right? You just can't live in the woods, not anythere in European continent, or in the USA, at least. There is simply not enough wild animals to hunt anymore. And even if they were, you need a hunting licence, or how it is called in your country. You cannot just chop some wood for building a home or heating it either - you will be arrested for it. You can not settle on some unclaimed land - there is no such thing anymore. You can't build your house on your own property without a shitton of licenses and inspections from the government. And building materials are not free either. Same goes for homegrown food - it could prove itself even more expensive than if you buy it in a supermarket. If you don't have your own house or apartment, then you have to pay to your landlord. Of course, you always can live under a bridge in a cardboard box, but I doubt that life would make you happy without hefty daily dose of alcohole or drugs (which is again wouldn't come for free). And what if you would fell ill? Even if your country have a free or semi-free health care (mine do - with my health condition i would already be either dead or hopelessly in debts if I had to pay my hospital bills on my own), you'll still need to buy your prescribed drugs, and farmaceutical companies are greedy as hell. Just face it: novadays society is built in such a way that people just can't live on their own, without a Big Brother type government. Resouses is too scarce to just live a "simple life" and those who distributing these resourses have a complete power over us.

Sold my flat, bought a tiny house with a big property next to a beautiful lake inland in norway. I can grow my own vegetables, fish in the lake, chop my own firewood. I've got no neighbours, clean air, clean well-water, and when I sit on the veranda I can only hear birdsong. No cars, no traffic noise, no sirens. No industrial sounds. At night I can see stars clearly, there is no light-pollution. My mental health went from depressed, miserable, and horrible to great. I'm at peace. I can touch grass barefeet in the morning, feel the morning dew. I can go for a swim without taking the car, bus or train to get to water. And I can do so nude because there is no people around. In a year I've had close encounters with deer, moose, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, squirrels, wild game, ravens, eagles and every snake, frog and insect we have. Not on the TV. With my own eyes, up close. It's absolute freedom. And its wonderful. It took me years of work, preparation, savings. But the value is immeasurable.

I don't want them in my home; I don't want to spend time in theirs. I have no interest in their accomplishments or their possessions. I don't want to be dependent. So your presumption of spending on gold and silver instead of on, say, useful tools or the like whose value is more objective (at least insofar as anything that pertains to what is still human behavior can be), makes no sense. Besides, since nobody uses gold and silver directly as money now you'd have to either establish that economy first, magically hope that someone else will do so for some reason _and_ also _won't_ do something else instead. All you've done otherwise, is just double your entanglement with the existing society since to use those gold and silver you will first have to sell them for fiat cash before you can then buy the items you want. So, again, it makes more sense to buy truly valuable hard assets that you can actually do things with.

I just turned 30, and I have a wife and a 9 year old son. I have a great career in IT that allows me a lot of flexibility and paid time off. I've now started to realize that life isn't about money, or the things you have, it's about the people in your life, the time you've spent with them, and the experiences you can have. I'm happy making enough to support my family and have some left at the end of the month. I'm happy working a 9-5 at a job I love. I'm happy to be able to spend time with my family. I'm happy to have hobbies that I can afford. I just recently bought a pair of binoculars to start bird watching and I also started to resupply my backpacking gear in hopes to start hiking and backpacking again. I'd rather die knowing that I had amazing experiences on the NH48, PCT, Appalachian Trail, or any other amazing mountain range with my family as well as amazing outings elsewhere, instead of sitting on my ass stressing if people will like my house, my truck, the clothes I'm wearing, my interests, my beliefs, and the "weird" things I like to do for a 30 year old who seems to be 50 on the inside. My hope for people is that they'll realize life is not about the rat race, keeping up with the joneses, or becoming rich beyond imagination, life is about the experiences that you have that leave a mark, that leave a legacy. My favorite quote is, "you never truly die until people stop saying your name", please, let your name be spoken for generations and your legacy stay true forever. Read more. Spend more time with family. Spend more time with friends. Spend more time in nature. Slow down and appreciate the world around you. Listen to the sound of kids laughing. Listen to the sound of the birds chirping. Become present in this world, become present within yourself and actually live, because one day you'll die and you'll regret not changing your life sooner. As Lynyrd Skynyrd said, "be a simple kind of man, be something you love and understand". I truly appreciate this video because it's a message that a lot of people need to hear. Thank you for this!

Now I have a very basic pickup, still luxury in a way, but a lot less than I used to think I needed. I love it and really don't miss anything. I live in a small house, but its mortgage free. Every stone is owned by me. I do not live a common lifestyle anymore. Most people would say I work every day and I work a lot. But it is doing things I like doing completely on my own terms. I've been trying to tell people this for the longest, the 9-5 rat race hustle culture isn't the way. People would rather slave away at a job they hate for their entire life to pay for big expensive houses and cars; then buy something cheaper that wouldn't be a burden and would allow them to work less and actually live. People are way too worried about what others will think of them and they think they have to buy expensive items, so people don't think less of them. I really wish people would understand that for example driving a 20-year-old car and having a smaller home with no debt is the biggest win.

I needed this message. I did walk away from everything in 2018 in search of a cabin in the woods and lots of doing nothing except what makes me happy. Unfortunately I got distracted by a man that did everything to keep me in his world, a different version of what I was leaving behind. I broke free and packed everything and told him "you wanted to control everything in my life, now its your burden" and I walked away again. As I sit here frustrated because I don't have a plan so I don't know what to do. I turned on the TV (KZread) and this video pops up. I started to think "what do I want to do" ... then I smiled because I want to do what I wanted to do... I want to head to the forest, feed the birds, buy an old-fashioned rocking chair and drive to West Virginia, find a place to sit and drink freshly squeezed lemonade. That's what I want to do. Seeing my parent's generation die out before they could enjoy their pensions and retirement after slaving away for a company and missing out on truly living made me recognize what a terrible deal that is. Work..2 Week vacation every year... pay bills..die. Not me. That's an existence, not a life, IMO. Live simply.. Live honestly. When you own too much stuff, that stuff ends up owning you. True wealth is peace and being who you really are. Peace ☮️
