CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Colonel Hardy (Christopher Meloni) sacrifices himself to destroy the World Engine and Superman (Henry Cavill) saves Lois (Amy Adams).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
As the planet of Krypton crumbles, General Zod (Michael Shannon) stages a coup as concerned leader Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and his wife send their infant son Kal-El to a distant world called Earth. While the young child travels through space with an object containing the DNA of his home planet, General Zod and his cohorts are sentenced to an eternity in a black-hole prison. Named Clark and raised by kindly farmers Jonathan (Kevin Costner) and Martha Kent (Diane Lane), young Kal-El lives in fear of what might happen should his neighbors learn about his extraterrestrial origins, eventually exploring the world in search of himself. In time, Clark's travels take him to a frozen tundra, where the American government has discovered an 18,000-year-old anomaly buried deep in the ice. Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane (Amy Adams) has just come to investigate when, after venturing out with her camera, she has a profound encounter with Clark. Convinced that his presence on Earth is proof of life on other planets, Lois finds her attempt to publish the story thwarted by her boss Perry White (Laurence Fishburne), who rejects it outright. Later, the airwaves are hijacked by General Zod, who threatens to obliterate the human race if they fail to hand over Kal-El within 24 hours. Forced to embrace his otherworldly origins for the first time in his life, Clark Kent dons the special suit from Krypton and prepares to take a stand against an enemy far more powerful than any he's ever known.

Competent humans is something I really like in superhero movies. Movies tend to dismiss 'normal' people to empower the hero. But its always refreshing to be reminded of mankind's resilience. The soldiers in this don't flail around and wait for Superman. They come together to form solutions and fight furiously to the end. They just had the unfortunate fate of being severely outmatched.

Yes! I have a great sense of appreciation for that. Superman and the military coordinated to take down the threat. It was just as much their heroism that saved humanity as Superman's. And that tends to get dismissed a lot in CBMs. It's either total and completely helplessness, or it is completely disconnected because their battles take place in some empty location where no one is around (which is fine, but I think you lose something). I would like to see more of this in future CBMs.

indeed! the soldiers in this movie were brave AF! fighting with all they had, vs superhumans, but still tho, would they feel an armor piercing round? of a heavy caliber ofc, surely that would do some damage to them. it doesnt matter how advanced their tech is. we have bullets that can trough multiple layers of solid steel and whatnot

The Colonel went down like a goddamn warrior. He wasnt going to overcome his enemy. There was no way. But he could take her down with him. And faced with a being that threatens his very worlds existence? Worth it. Even earlier in the film when he and his team were taken down by Faora. He knew he was dead but he was out of ammo by then and his team all lost. So he pulls his knife to keep going to the last. This man at least had superman sized testicles.

Doesnt even get much praise. The literal second hero of the film got no praise. Also, "a good death, is it's own reward" has got to be one of the best hero movie quotes ever. Especially in the context of its saying. Man of Steel is my favorite DC movie aside from the dark knight 2. Wish the writer at Warner would collab with marvel creative team and come out with a flash movie.

It’s interesting to see how much faora respected the colonel. Seeing how she immediately took down the other soldiers but allowing the colonel to speak to her when she could end it in an instant. It’s worth noting that these two characters are almost the same. They’re both soldiers willing to die for their home and they believe in honor and bravery. Both characters showed these traits and so they end up actually respecting each other.

Wouldn't you say the Colonel is more of a superhero than Superman? What does 'super' mean? Extraordinary. It takes someone with extraordinary amount of heart and courage to know, against overwhelming odds, knowing that you won't live through the battle, but still chooses to fight because he's fighting for his home and his ideals, and most of all, his loved ones. He is a protector and he sacrificed himself to gain a huge advantage in their fight. Not taking anything away from Superman, but he has less to worry about dying when going up against Kryptonians and it takes the Colonel more courage to do what he did. The true superheroes, are ironically, the ones without superpowers. The friends, coworkers, first responders on the ground, putting more on the line than Superman, in order to help others. I think this goes with the theme of the movie, hope, humanity's biggest strength, that will propel each and every one of us to realize our potential to do great things and be our own superheroes to others.

She might've thought he'd lost the nerve he'd shown before when he ran, but then he said that. When the Sword of Rao was imprisoned in the phantom zone at the beginning of the movie, those were controlled circumstances via Jor El’s technology, and the Kryptonians were put in special pods. At the end of the movie, the singularity created wasn’t controlled and nobody was in a protective pod. I think the gravity of the singularity probably killed everybody. Even if Faora survived the initial singularity because she was empowered at the time, it would wear off in the phantom zone and she has no form of sustenance. They’re all dead.

I would even say it is one of the top ten films so far from the 2010s decade, along with "Cloud Atlas", "Les Miserables", "Coriolanus", "The Great Gatsby", "Exodus: Gods and Kings" and "12 Years A Slave".

The two of them in the Phantom Zone could make for an interesting story. Faora wants to take down her enemy, but the Colonel's just done with the fight, because after a prolonged battle, he realizes the Zone won't let them die. The Colonel, realizing his life is pretty much done, calms down and explores the Zone, even opening up a bit, while Faora struggles to understand him, eventually ALSO talking back to him as she basically has no one else to talk to. She tells him how she hates the stagnation of the Phantom Zone. She explains that she was literally BORN to fight, so this place, peaceful in a "dead corpse" kind of way, pretty much offends her very existence. The Colonel shows the big difference between them: when it comes to being a soldier, he can "turn it off." She learns to do the same, and they bond for an eternity... until a years-older Superman saves them, of course.

@@natista4523 maybe not fly the plane but go through the roof or the floor of the plane. 2 seconds before she had ripped a piece of the plane like it was cardboard

i love it when he catches lois and then you can see he's basically not moving fighting the force sucking everything in but he then has a look behind him - gets his head down and really gives it the beans - the strength of Superman like the Hulk - gets better with anger

Great great movie then they TOTALLY screwed up the sequels...they laid such a great foundation to build a great trilogy

Alan Richard yes, that’s so sad. I would gladly pay to see MoS 2 and 3. Too bad they rushed in pursuit of money and "be like Marvel". It could’ve been glorious had they waited and rendered the universe.

Not only that, they wasted 3 years and released 'Batan Vs Superman' in 2016. No introduction movies for Aquaman, Cyborg, Flash and then they released Justice League in a rush to compete with Marvel. Now Henry Cavill and Affleck are out of DC and Robbert Pattinson is playing the 3rd batman (Christian Bale and Affleck before). DC ruined themselves.

No Wb ruined Dc! And if you know about what Zack was planning then it was basically Injustice but a more deeper and in-depth story arc!

As a Marvel fan I have to agree. They at least had the pieces set but they just self destructed. It took 11 years for Marvel to build up why did they think they could do it in 3-6.

This movie's bad guy was Faora, a scary, scary warrior but someone you understood and could respect. She was one of the reasons this movie was a classic. Batman v. Superman? They gave us a clown like Jesse Eisenberg to play the great Lex Luthor like a clown. Painful to watch and all you can do is wince.
